Publisher's summary

Jake McCabe is no stranger to trouble. Between serving in the army during the Civil War and being involved in a long-running feud in his home state of Kentucky, Jake has known some hard times. Some have said the McCabe family is known best for their run of bad luck.

Jake decides to move to Central Texas, along with a beautiful neighbor lady and her family. They all hope for peaceful days and happier times in their new home, but sometimes trouble just seems to follow a man. Luckily, having a new ranch to call your own and the love of a good woman are powerful incentives, and Jake knows how to fight for what is his.

Interesting story with well developed characters and great narration.

This is the first book I have heard by Patrick Lindsay, but it will not be the last I hope. The struggle of Jake McCabe to put his troubled past behind and start fresh in TX is an exciting journey of conflict, dreams and love. The narration was excellent and E Roy Worleys reading was as if he lived in that time and place. Hearing this book was like sitting in front of a fireplace on a cold winters night. My wife and I enjoyed it thoroughly!

A very nice and interesting story full of action events and some romance every now and then.
It is a story of bravery, persistence, care and love. It is also a story of a feud that still lingers.

The narration was great. The narrator kept me listening attentively. He deserves a thumbs up!
I definitely recommend this audiobook.

A Classic Western Well Told

I am a fan of westerns, growing up with the classics from Zane Grey, Max Brand and Louis L’Amour. This story has all the hallmarks of such a classic with a likable MC and the typical power hungry antagonist (although not really a good comparison, it did remind me a little of the Sackett Saga). Throw in a light romance and some gun play with a reasonable plot and you have the basic all American feel good story the genre is famous for, and I enjoyed it a lot. The narration was solid and comfortable for the story and gave it a bit more of an authentic feel with the first person POV. Most of all … it was a clean story, which I appreciated so much given what I have found in more recent western stories. Finally … it is in Kindle Unlimited … so it is definitely work a read in you subscribe to that.

I was given this free advance review/listener copy (ARC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Held me from the beginning and didn't disappoint

I was hooked within the first few minutes of listening to this book and it held me until the end. The pace was fast but detailed enough to paint a vivid picture of each scene in my mind. The characters were well-developed and so interesting. I loved the storyline. The narrator (E. Roy Worley) was about the best I've heard. I'll be looking for more of his books to listen to. His voice was easy to understand. The accents were amazing and didn't sound fake. Just a delightful experience listening to this book. I highly recommend it.

Like A Western Movie

What a story! A very interesting plot.
The author, Patrick Lindsay, makes sure you live the events and imagine them in details through his descriptive style.
I felt I was in one of those western movies while listening to the story.
I have to admit that the Narrator is more than successful in bringing the story to life. He draws you in and fully immerses you in the story with perfect accent and intonation.

The storyline is great, flows smoothly and full of action, gun fights, feuds, and a bit of romance.
