Publisher's summary

Any time you communicate with others, the way you carry yourself, the way you speak, and the way you interact with your listeners - your presence - is equally as important as the words you say. Great actors, musicians, and public speakers all seem to have strong presence, and to some degree, this same capacity is something we all need and use in many areas of life, both professional and personal. Is this ability to connect powerfully and authentically with an audience something you’re born with, or are there ways to develop it? Can presence, in fact, be learned?

As you’ll discover in this illuminating and highly practical course, the answer is an unqualified “yes”. The skills of poise, physical ease in public, clarity of speaking, and engaging, effective communication are well understood and can be practiced and developed in ways that will greatly improve your success in presenting yourself in any setting.

In Mastering Stage Presence: How to Present to Any Audience, Melanie Martin Long, a celebrated teacher of acting and directing, leads you in an in-depth exploration of the skills - and the joy - of performance and self-presentation. You’ll practice exercises to develop physical freedom and ease and to expand your vocal resources. You’ll learn how to channel nervous energy into effective performance and how to keep your audience’s attention. With the skills you’ll develop, you can confidently step forward as a performer or presenter, offering your best self to the world in any setting.

Great tips!

This was a very high quality course. I recommend for anyone required to do public speaking needing help.

Good but mislabeled

This was a good lecture series but it was mislabeled - it had 'present' in the title which I assume to mean speaking. Although there was some material about speaking the focus was on performance which was a bit disappointing.

Mastering Stage Presence Comments.

I purchased this particular book for the purpose of improving my performing skills. However, I had no idea of the voluminous amount of categories that Would be covered. Such as body language, breathing, possible causes of back pain and so on. I also like the performance and delivery of narration. I visualized an attractive librarian type, though not deliberately trying to, but sounding quite sexy. It’s got to be my favorite out of 60 plus books I’ve purchased from audible!
Performance is***** And story is*****

Could be condensed by a few hours

Definitely some useful advice even if you're not an aspiring actor. Too much filler tho. Need to cut out a few lectures

Not made for Audio book

I guess this course is meant to be accompanied by the video, because it references a lot to visual aid. There are hole chapters were you are supposed to copy the movements of the profesor.

Well presented, just challenging as audio book

The presenter did a great job of organizing and presenting the material. However, it didn't quite hit a sweet spot for me personally for 3 reasons:
1. It focused primarily on acting and presenting and my main interest is singing
2. I typically listen to audio books on my commute in my car so I couldn't do some of the exercises
3. Not being able to see some of the things she was doing minimized the usefulness of the information.

If you're an actor, this book might be useful for you.

Not quite what I expected

When I purchased this course, I had anticipated a course on how to present to any audience. What I received was a course far better suited to an actor than a public speaker. In spite of that fact, many of the lectures were applicable outside of the theater.

There are many sections in the book that are supposed to have an accompanying video. For those, you just have to use your imagination, as there is no video.
