On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is...different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight.

Story
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Publisher's Summary
Fifteenth-century Venice is a safe haven for the masterless dregs of the vampire world, a city where they can live without the fear of retribution for violating another's territory. Still, there are plenty of ways for a young vampire to die in the glittering city, a lesson that prince turned pauper Mircea Basarab must learn quickly. But there are opportunities, too - in the service of a secretive courtesan, in the bed of a beautiful senator, and in the hunt for an ancient assassin. As a vendetta older than Venice itself comes to a climax, Mircea struggles to evade the dangers of his current life, to come to terms with his past, and to uncover the truth hidden behind a city of masks.

Don't waste your money. Not relevant to the series
BOOK REVIEW......
This book can easily be skipped. It is not relevant to the over all series. I thought the book would be more of Mircea life leading up to becoming what he is today and meeting Cassie. Instead it's more about useless annoying whiny characters that make you want to throw the book away and not bother finishing it. But I did finish it in hopes that maybe some real back story would come up. Nope! The ONLY thing I got out of reading it was learning that Mircea is in fact a kind man or at least was.
NARRATOR REVIEW......
This woman's attempt at male voices is just plain god awful. It depresses me to see that she narrated another book in the series. I can only hope that if the series continues past the 8 books posted that this narrator is not asked to read again.

Great Backstory- Leaves You Wanting More
This is a back story for one of the main characters in this series. It surprised me at first, but once I got into it I really loved it! As usual, the author makes the characters like-able and interesting. This book also gives great insights into some parts of the story that have been hard to understand prior. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

Superb!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes I would. Karen Chance is a brilliant author. Her series of Cassandra Palmer is absolutely wonderful! I have always liked Mircea's personality and his strength.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Mask: Cassandra Palmer World, Book 4.3?
There were many memorable moments but the most touching when Mircea Basarab found his daughter, Dorina. Their interaction is most moving.
Have you listened to any of Allyson Ryan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Allyson Ryan's performance was very good indeed.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I love it! At last Mircea's past is told. He has a strong and admirable character.
Any additional comments?
Hope to have more on Mircea please.

Lousy Voice Choices
This performer made some really ghastly decisions: over-the-top, borderline racist accents; shrill, awful children's voices. I stopped caring what happened to the characters before I was halfway through, and can't tell whether that was the writing (I am a fan of the series overall) or the performance--or both.
