Publisher's Summary

The proud and arrogant duke of Everingham is determined to secure a marriage of convenience with heiress Lady Georgiana Rutherford. He's the biggest prize on the London marriage mart, pursued by young unmarried ladies and their matchmaking mamas, as well as married women with a wandering eye. He can have any woman he wants. Or so he thinks....

Lady Georgiana Rutherford - irreverent and unconventional - has no plans to marry. Having grown up poor, Lady George has no intention of giving up her fortune to become dependent on the dubious and unreliable goodwill of a man. Especially a man as insufferable as the duke of Everingham, whose kisses stirs unwelcome and unsettling emotions....

The more she defies him, the more the duke wants her, until an argument at a ball spirals into a passionate embrace. Caught in a compromising position, the duke announces their betrothal. George is furious, and when gossip claims she deliberately entrapped the duke - when she was the one who was trapped - she marches down the aisle in a scarlet wedding dress. But the unlikely bride and groom may have found love in the most improbable of places - a marriage of convenience.

Contains mature themes.

Loved the story!

I really enjoyed this book. Kept my interest the entire way with surprising twists and turns. George was an admirable character who most women would love to emulate. The Duke was also wonderful especially learning who he really was in his heart and not someone everyone saw him as. I highly recommend this romance story. The narrator was also excellent and convincing as the many characters she played out were all unique and easily pictured in my mind.

Fun read

I was excited to read George’s story. It was modeled quite a bit on pride and prejudice but no complaints here. I really enjoyed it. Was worth a credit to me. Last one in series so a little sad to get to the end too. Cool, cold hero and wild wonderful heroine. His conversion was a little quick near the end but it was all great fun.

I liked this a lot!

Georgina Rutherford didn't even know she had a family as she was growing up. She was raised by a lovely woman from a baby and loved her back. George has always been closer to animals than people. But when she is discovered living in a cramped cottage, she is taken back to London and first meets her aunts who are almost the same age as her! And she begins to love them as they are so kind and considerate! As she watches each one get married and fall in love - she declared that she never will marry and is fine with that. She first meets the Duke of Everingham at the wedding of Rose , her aunt, and the Duke - and thinks him cold. Then her aunt's first husband, whom she thought was dead, turns up at the wedding and stops it! After that the Duke is single again. When George's Great Aunt Agatha, the Duke's godmother, suggest to him that even though he was rejected by Rose, her half sister, Georgie, might just do the trick- he, at first, does not want anything to do with her, which suits her just fine as she never planned on marrying anyway! But at one ball he follows out to there back garden, just planning on kissing her as he finds her attractive, but the kiss overwhelms them both! They are found in a compromising position, kissing madly with Georgie's legs wrapped around his waist! It is her first kiss and it takes her by surprise- however she still does not want to marry him! To save her reputation, he says, and to placate gossip and saver her reputation, he tells the crowd they will marry very soon. George is furious and tells him she will not! He cannot understand why, as tons of other women want him! The only way she will agree is if he will agree to her stipulations, and he does, much to her surprise. Then she wears a red dress to get married in and he tells her how beautiful she looks in it! She tests him , through her rebellion, many times and always find him kind and attentive. And she absolutely LOVES their sexual congress! She gradually learns to trust him and even gross to love him - and he, her. They have adventure together that month he had promised her before they were to live separately. The first month of the we it marriage comes to an end, and both of them, trying to be noble, begin to let each other go, even though neither of them wants to! As he begins to drive away, he sees that she has tears in her eyes, and finally realized that she doesn't want to go ahead with those "marital stipulations". He stops the coach and runs back to her and they tell each other how much they love the other!

This Story Will Make You Smile

I was a little unsure of the direction the story was going after that spectacular dress George wore for her wedding with Everingham. There had to be a conflict so enter the ward, a look a like, a potential kidnapping, fear of a drowning in the lake...Now the real conflict when the duke plans to go back to London If only they would say how they feel.LOVE.

So much Fun!! A Duke and an Independent Lady

I love the Rutherfords!! The whole series was delicious and each book had its own unique H/h.
George (Lady Georgiana) is a fun character whose life has been very interesting. When the Duke of Everingham (Rose's jilted husband to be from the previous book) turns his sites on George, sparks of all kinds start flying. I really enjoyed the how each puzzled out the other.
I don't do spoilers, however, you will not be disappointed with the story and romance.
The narrator, Alison Larkin, was perfected for this novel. She did a great job with the various character voices. The narrator for the first book in the series was someone else, don't remember who. Thank goodness Ms. Larkin was the narrator for the remaining books in the series.
Had fun and I definitely will be listening to this story again!!

Totally disappointing.

The heroine has been built up over a series of books as independent and strong. I was looking forward to her story. Then suddenly she becomes a totally wimp and doormat.
I hate it when this happens, just to fit the story the author ruines a good character and matches her with a personality she wouldn't touch with a barge pole, let alone become his doormat. I couldn't finish the story as it so totally wanted to make me scream. They say the last in the series, is always a disappointment as the author is just wanting to finish. This proves the idea, don't waste your money

A good mix of romance, humour, tension and passion

A good tale of loneliness , where the heroine and hero surprise themselves by loving each other in what was expected to be a marriage of convenience
