I loved it! Deserves 15 stars, maybe more!!

MARKED FOR MURDER is the 12th novel in the Shelby Nichols Adventures modern detective series by Colleen Helme. I've adored this series since listening to the first novel which is titled Carrots. To understand the series Carrots MUST be listened to first. I do not usually listen to or read novels that have a paranormal element, but this series which includes mind reading is a clear exception. Finding a similar series of novels is difficult. The closest is likely the Miss Fortune series by Jana DeLeon.

Most of the novels in this series are largely light and fun. MARKED FOR MURDER is a serious modern detective novel which contains some light and fun elements. As usual Wendy Tremont King does a great job of narration.

I recommend MARKED FOR MURDER and the other books in the Shelby Nichols Adventures series without reservation.

Each new book in this series is...

the best one!!!! I had been hesitant to listen to this series because it's not generally the type of mystery I normally find myself drawn to. I've been following Wayne (Matthews, NC) for a few years and so far his reviews have never steered me wrong. He has written some wonderful reviews about this series and one about this book. I encourage any listener to read his reviews about these books and then get them.
Excellent series, fast paced and extremely entertaining
The narration of all books is done by Wendy Tremont King. She brings the character of Shelby Nichols to life.
This book and series have my
HIGHEST RECOMMENDATIONS!!

Wow, this one moved fast.

This is one of my favorites of the series. I have enjoyed the entire series but at times it was a bit too slow but Ms. Helme remedied that!
Married to an attorney, two teen kids, a mob boss friend/boss, an incredibly handsome hired killer (he’s more that that but I digress), consultant to the police department, friends getting married in a few days, oh and Shelby can read minds. Her life is a bit busy.
This one has a “secret admirer” and chimerism?
It was a great listen and so much was going on, not enough to be confusing but you lose track of your time and before you know it, it ends...with something we’ve been waiting for.
A whole lot of fun!
The reader, though not my favorite, is great with this series.

Another Great Shelby Nichols Adventure

Worth a credit? Absolutely! Colleen Helme does it again with more mystery and mayhem in this exciting installment of the adventures of Shelby Nichols.
With Ramos by her side, Shelby finds herself very busy with multiple mysteries to solve. From the first book, Carrots 🥕, this series will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Narration, as always, was perfect!

Marked as a good book

Wow I really enjoyed this story! It was action packed from start to finish with a great plot, explosions gun fights and fire bombs. I just love the characters and the unusual situations they find themselves in. Colleen has a great style of writing that keeps the reader hooked even if this is the first book you have read or if you have read every book in this great series.
Shelby is looking forward to her friends wedding but when a unfortunate incidence thrusts her into the lime light, she gains a stalker with dangerous mind games on his mind. After a few close calls Shelby turns to Uncle Joey for help when the stalker start to leave her unwanted gifts and surprises. She also has to worry about her husband's co-worker who seems to be in some big trouble that somehow involves her husband. But when things start to impact on the wedding Shelby needs the help from both her cop friends and her mob friends to keep everyone alive.
The narrator was very good and has an easy listening style that makes the book enjoyable.

Thank you Colleen and Wendy!

The wait was excruciating, but Audible finally released the audio! As a teacher, students would ask about my favorite book or my favorite author. Throughout the years this answer has changed and often included not just one favorite but several. When asked a few weeks ago, my answer was definitive and concise. Colleen Helme with her Shelby Nichols series is my all time favorite. Of course, Wendy’s performance brings Shelby and crew to life. I waited an extra 2 weeks so I could get the full Colleen-Wendy experience. It was worth the wait! Thanks again ladies!

Best Shelby Nichols yet, narrated by SuperStar!

For me, as I have grown accustomed to the work of Wendy Tremont King over the past few years, Wendy IS Shelby Nichols. Wendy does a superlative job of voicing Shelby, Chris, her husband, Uncle Joey Manetto the Mob Boss, Too hot to handle Ramos the hit man, and more. Wendy’s steady style and approach, combined with the first person perspective of Colleen Helme is just a fantastic dynamic duo. Colleen may write these incredible adventures, but Wendy brings them to life, and I don’t know that I could ever really believe in another narrator for Shelby without thinking “That’s not Shelby”.

Part of what makes Colleen’s stories so good and so gripping is her conveying the mindreader’s thoughts, not just her actions. Yes, Shelby can read minds, and because we share in HER reactions to what people are thinking from a first person perspective, we don’t just get the danger and adventure, we get the thoughts, the feelings, and the emotion behind them. This is perhaps what makes the stories so edge of your seat and so real. So fun. It’s almost like we get a peek behind the covers of someone’s life, like we’re reading their journal, not just reading a news recounting or a fanciful tale.

Collen’s genius has now spread across 12 Shelby Nichols adventures, and I often wonder, if she reads my reviews, if she gets tired of seeing me say that she gets better with each new edition. She really does, and although the books are thoroughly enjoyable from the first to the last, there is an undeniable qualitative improvement to her writing.

Wendy, on the other hand, as a narrator, is like a Rolex watch - you don’t mess with perfection.

Together, the team make an enjoyable listen that will last you with satisfaction long after the price you paid has been forgotten. It’s a two edged sword, really, and I have taken to savoring these books and drawing out the time I take to listen, simply because i enjoy them so much and I know that there will inevitably by a wait for the next one.

I used to travel all over the world for my job, and I survived a lot of 9-24 hour plane flights with my mind-reading soccer mom companion. I truly hope the series continues. It’s also great fun to go back and listen to earlier volumes sometimes, just to pick up on things I’ve forgotten or missed the first time round. And as the characters develop and mature in their own lives and with each other, it’s like getting to know people better, almost like having friends, as they follow life’s adventures. And since Shelby seems to have trouble find her by being in the wrong place and time - well, that’s why we read them: Can she get out of this next unbelievable mess? Can everyone survive. It’s really touch and go in this latest volume, Marked for Murder, and we don’t know all of who lives and dies until the last few pages. Whew!

There’s no question but that these books are 5 star creations, and I truly hope that Colleen and Wendy will continue with these creations for a long time. This book and series has my highest recommendation. I just can’t wait to see what impossible situation Shelby has gotten herself into next!

Excellent and gripping story

This story is an excellent mystery. Very gripping. You won't be able to stop listening. The story will definitely hold your interest. Shelby's ability is purposely tested by someone who is threatening her friends, family and coworkers with a game of cat and mouse. She is trying to stay two steps ahead of the person responsible but can she do it? There is lots of action. There is also some very interesting side stories. A woman needs help proving she is the mother of her child. DNA tests are not showing it. Dimples and Billie are getting married but will they have to call off the wedding? What is Chris's junior partner up to? It sounds like he is out to ruin Chris's law practice. The relationships of the main characters continue to develop. Hmmmm. Shelby has a desk and a computer finally at the police station. Just another day at the office.
Lots of laughable moments but lots of tension and suspense. The narrator is very good and able to change up voices well and build suspense.
