Publisher's summary

An Adepta Sororitas novel.

In the wake of the war for Ophelia VII, Battle-Sister Evangeline of the Order of Our Martyred Lady embarks on a crusade into the darkness that lies beyond the Great Rift, seeking vengeance and revelation, but surviving the journey will only be the first and most simple test of her faith.

Listen to It Because: Delve into Imperium Nihilus with a tale of faith and fury that looks at the nature of the Adepta Sororitas and their place in the new Dark Imperium.

The Story: With the birth of the Cicatrix Maledictum the Imperium of Mankind suffers as never before. Conflict and corruption is rife on every front and precious little hope remains, save for those who hold to their faith when faced with destruction....

Denied a martyr’s death during the battle for Ophelia VII, Sister Evangeline of the Order of Our Martyred Lady is blessed with a new and grave duty: to embark on a pilgrimage beyond the Great Rift to recover a precious and powerful artefact - the Shield of Saint Katherine. Accompanied by the enigmatic Inquisitor Ravara, who seeks her own closure in the veiled regions beyond the Rift, Evangeline must find a way to bear the weight of this unasked-for destiny if she and her Sisters are to succeed in restoring a fragment of light to this new dark Imperium.

It’s a decent read for a Sisters of Battle book

The story plays out like a rollercoaster. When it gets going, it flows well. Though there are several slow points in the book.

Okay...Great and Meh

The singing was a big turn off. But the story was great. A fresh perspective on an inquisitor. Character development was good. The emperor loving supernatural faith was very present and fun at times. All in all a good listen; great at times, meh at others.

okay story about crazy religious nuns

This audio book was alright. The story was average. what you'd expect from a sisters of Battle book. The narrator was mediocre and after awhile of listening to the voices she would make for certain characters I had to start laugh at how bad and silly they sounded.

Bizarre VA and inconsistent

It seemed like both the VA's and author were unfamiliar with 40k as an overall setting. Besides this I enjoyed most of the characters and the battles the author wrote up.

Meh story and horrible ending

I enjoyed the book, but there are a few things that stood out. Pacing is bad, it gets good and then stops and takes forever to pick back up. The ending is trash, I was not a fan of the singing in it. Overall the pacing, singing, and the ending made it feel like the whole story was a waste of time.

The God Emperor Protects!

An incredible reading! Story was a bit predictable, but it’s Warhammer so that’s not a big deal. The acting was superb! I’ll be happy to put this one in my heavy rotation!

Not revolutionary but enjoyable and engaging.

The book itself is fairly predictable but still enjoyable. It isn't insulting and doesn't try to do too much. I do feel like people may be lost if they have no knowledge of the sisters of battle or even 40k. I would assume anyone listening or reading this is already a fan but I don't believe this will grab anyone new.

Odd side note. The performances were excellent but the sound quality for the one actress can be rough. You can hear things like pages turning, people moving and the actual recording doesn't sound like it's in a professional studio. It didn't bother me too much but I know it will bother some people. I gave it a pass because I assume the recording process got interrupted by the covid pandemic and I'm just happy it got produced at all.
