Publisher's Summary

"An instant classic." (Arianna Huffington)

"Will inspire people from across the political spectrum." (Jonathan Haidt)

An essential shortlist of leadership ideas for everyone who wants to do good in this world, from Jacqueline Novogratz, author of the New York Times best seller The Blue Sweater and founder and CEO of Acumen.

In 2001, when Jacqueline Novogratz founded Acumen, a global community of socially and environmentally responsible partners dedicated to changing the way the world tackles poverty, few had heard of impact investing - Acumen’s practice of “doing well by doing good”. Nineteen years later, there’s been a seismic shift in how corporate boards and other stakeholders evaluate businesses: Impact investment is not only morally defensible, but now also economically advantageous, even necessary.

Still, it isn’t easy to reach a success that includes profits as well as mutually favorable relationships with workers and the communities in which they live. So how can today’s leaders, who often kick off their enterprises with high hopes and short timetables, navigate the challenges of poverty and war, of egos and impatience, which have stymied generations of investors who came before?

Drawing on inspiring stories from change-makers around the world and on memories of her own most difficult experiences, Jacqueline divulges the most common leadership mistakes and the mindsets needed to rise above them. The culmination of 30 years of work developing sustainable solutions for the problems of the poor, Manifesto for a Moral Revolution offers the perspectives necessary for all those - whether ascending the corporate ladder or bringing solar light to rural villages - who seek to leave this world better off than they found it.

A Guide for Grown-Up Idealists

If you wish to change the world and alleviate some unnecessary suffering, Jacqueline Novogratz maintains that you’re going to encounter resistance from a rather predictable cast of characters (e.g., cynical journalists, market fundamentalists, impatient venture capitalists, progressive bullies, narrow-minded nationalists, thieving employees, corrupt businessmen with two sets of books, government bureaucrats looking for bribes, intellectuals who like to complain about everything but do nothing, etc.). Like Niccolò Machiavelli’s Prince (1532) and Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals (1971), Manifesto for a Moral Revolution (2020) teaches you how to deal with the different kinds of difficult people you’re likely to meet with wisdom and grace. Like Susan Neiman’s Moral Clarity (2008), this is a guide for grown-up idealists. It is also, to some extent, sort of like a 21st-century version of Plutarch’s Lives of the Noble Greeks and Romans. Novogratz ignites the moral imagination of her reader with stories of common people doing uncommon things. Like Plutarch, she reminds us that mere mortals can be great.

A Good Read to Inspire Change

I found ‘Manifesto’ a quick and easy read. Many case-like stories that help make the point. A very global look and how to address big challenges and come together to make change. Good for the person thinking about how to help their immediate community or their country.
A good dose of inspiration!

Manifesto for a Moral Revolution

I loved the whole book. It shows how good morals should triumph for the believer and unbeliever. We are living in an ever increasing decay of our society. I would recommend this book to all. My rating is based on the content and its truth.

Inspiring our todays

A must read for all changemakers who feel moved to do something big or small with their lives. And for those seeking or needing encouragement along that journey. The practice of writing a manifesto should be required at different stages in our lives. It reminds us of our why, our purpose, the time we have for our one precious life -to be in service to one another.

Game-changer

Truly life impacting. If you are into that kind of thing, it doesn’t get any better. Quietly and savagely challenging to the human psyche. I’m in. Thanks

Absolutely inspiring!

I bought the audiobook first and then bought the print version so I could write copious notes in the margins. I'm part of the Acumen Academy global community now, too.

Inspired to create change

I found the story very heartfelt and whilst hearing the stories of resilience it gave me such faith in humanity.
There are some truly incredible people out there and that certainly inspires others to follow their lead .
Jacqueline read it beautifully and all credit to her for releasing such a gem of a book ;)
