Publisher's summary

Narrated by a 13,000-year-old extinct mammoth, this is the (mostly) true story of how a collection of prehistoric creatures came to be on sale at a natural history auction in New York in 2007. By tracing how and when these fossils were unearthed, Mammoth leads us on a funny and fascinating journey from the Pleistocene epoch to 19th-century America and beyond, revealing how ideas about science and religion have shaped our world.

With our planet on the brink of calamitous climate change, Mammoth scrutinises humanity’s role in the destruction of the natural world while also offering a message of hope.

Brilliant narration!

This would be a highly entertaining and thought-provoking book in any medium, but the narrator is outstanding, and takes the whole thing to another level. It might be the best narration I’ve heard. Not just the amazing variety, but the care in matching voice to character. Outstanding.

Original and unique

The synopsis for this book piqued my interest from the start, and I wondered how such a notion could be maintained through an entire novel. But Chris Flynn has managed to do just that. A brilliant story, a blend of humour and poignancy and expertly narrated by Rupert Degas. I found it difficult to "put the book down".

Excellent for Book Clubs

Apart from thoroughly enjoying this wonderfully written, very entertaining and funny book, my book club had hours of interesting conversation about the many issues raised in the book. We highly recommend Mammoth for book clubs who enjoy discussing big issues, or those that just love a good read.
The Mammoth audio book narrated by Rupert Degas is fantastic. The narrator skilfully brings each character to life in an entertaining way. Even if you are not keen on audio books, this one might win you over.
Mammoth is original, imaginative, different, quirky, and fun and stimulates conversations on the topics of extinction, climate change, cloning, animal welfare, natural history auctions, ownership of fossils, ethics and so many more.
The author, Chris Flynn, is an excellent speaker and we were fortunate enough to attend his author talk at our local library. He is often a guest speaker at writers festivals and well worth seeking out.
