Publisher's summary

Ever since her father became too ill to work, Alice Abrams knows he can’t support her anymore on his army pension. So, Alice decides to sign up for Mrs. Emily Bronwick’s mail order bride service.

As well as starting a new life for herself, she wants to ensure her father’s financial security. She is delighted when the service matches her with Mr. Arthur Emerson of Bend, Oregon. But her closest friend, childhood playmate, and confidante Jesse McDowell objects bitterly to the plan.

He doesn’t want to let Alice out of his life so easily. Imagine Alice’s surprise when she boards the train to leave her home town of Greensborough, North Carolina! Jesse appears at the train station and announces, “I’m going with you.”

Although initially reluctant to accept Jesse’s help and support through the trials and hazards of the journey, Alice quickly recognizes her good fortune at having someone with whom to face her uncertain future.

Lightly Christian. Clean. Mail Order Bride

A warm, clean, lightly Christian, mail order bride story where seamstress bride fights resistance from disabled dad and loving childhood boy friend to travel to Bend, Oregon to meet her contracted mate. SHORT enjoyable, if predictable, story.

The brides of the series Chapman Mail Order Brides 1-3 make an appearance in the second half of this novel, as they share part of the train ride west with Alice, the heroine of this book.

Keep an open mind to love

Very good story. Short in length for a pleasant afternoon of listening. Characters not so many you lose track of who's who. Clean read. I like mail order bride stories and this was a very easy read. Beware, however, the ending has a twist to it. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and get cozy to listen to this book. Enjoy!!

Sweet

This story is very sweet. I love books that have the human element of making big mistakes only for them to turn out for the best. The characters were well done. The story ended rather quickly in a way. The narrator did a fairly good job except for a few word pronunciations that are easily ignorable. Nice fast read(or listen!)

Hated the narrator, loved the story

Well I am a bit confused on how to review this. I listened to this on audio. I do not recommend it at all. The book is great. Its a good story, I liked it. HOWEVER, the narrator was HORRIBLE. I cringed as she read this book. The pronunciation of the words, OMG, I wanted to yell at her.

I did like the book in general, It was a good story and I wanted more.

Wonderful story!

I loved it! The beautiful words of the author taking you on the train ride although the states were just wonderful. The description of the mountains and the scenery you could see it through their eyes. Gorgeous! When Jesse and Alice fell in love and alive finally knew it was so sweet. Thank you for such a wonderful book!!
