Lama Yeshe tells us that mahamudra is “the universal reality of emptiness, of nonduality” and its unique characteristic is its emphasis on meditation: “With mahamudra meditation there is no doctrine, no theology, no philosophy, no God, no Buddha. Mahamudra is only experience.”

He relies on the First Panchen Lama’s well-known Root Text of Genden Mahamudra, which in a few short pages provides the pith instructions for first overcoming distraction and resting in meditative stillness on the clarity of one’s own mind, and then, with subtle awareness, penetrating its ultimate nature, its emptiness.

As always, Lama Yeshe’s words are direct, funny, and incredibly encouraging. He gets us to go beyond ego’s addiction to a limited sense of self and to taste the lightness and expansiveness of our own true nature.

Clear and warm

This course familiarizes the listener with several approaches to Mahamudra in a warm, understandable way. Its an overview, leading to the entrance into the Mahamudra practice of profound understanding of reality of mind and experience. Worth listening to over snd over, while employing its points in meditation and conventional life.

Superb! An Inspiring, beautiful set of dharma teachings on Mahamudra

While not a beginner buddhist (gelugpa tradition) book, like most of the very best dharma retreats, the teachings in this book do have something for early stage students as well as students with many years of practice and experience meditating. This is a “I’ve listened to this many times” audio book, as the narration and content are first rate, and like all of the great teachers, Lama Yeshe completes this with some very inspiring words for all of his students.

One of the most understandable renditions of an extremely difficult topic. I found it recondite to say the least. I believe I can help me a long ways on the path that I’m going. I am thankful that I was led to it.

Very helpful to understand Mahamudra

Its a simple yet profound. First time I listen a full book by Lama Yeshe and now I want to listen to all of them. He has a very simple way to explain deep concepts to the western mind. And what was best is that it is read by Ven Robina.
