Publisher's Summary

Reynard Drake, solitary cybersecurity expert and curator of the Drake family fortune, would rather be chucked in the midden than forced to bed an omega, but as the selected Amethyst candidate for the mating experiment, he has no other choice. Resigned to his unhappy fate, he takes solace in the fact that one thing will never change -his virtual rival, Magpie, will always be there to keep him on his toes, even if he has been strangely absent from the internet lately...

Diamond Disgrace Misha Vasiliev has a secret. By day he learns what it takes to warm a dragon’s bed, but at night he’s Magpie, renowned hacker and dark web service provider who steals from dragons in his spare time. His favorite target? Reynard Drake, whom he's only ever seen in pictures, but whom Misha wants more than anyone else.

And now, with a faceless threat closing in on his cloister, quite possibly the only one capable of saving his life.

Magpie is a steamy omegaverse mpreg-ish romance set during the events of the Forbidden Desires series. It contains pretty things hidden where the sun don’t shine; a scandalous screenshot or two; plenty of laughs; its fair share of tense moments; and, of course, “Beagle!” For maximum enjoyment, Magpie is best listened as a companion piece to the Forbidden Desires series.

Magically delicious

I've listened to all of the books in this world. They're all fantastic stories, but there was something extra in Magpie. It's now my favorite. Emotional, funny, and with the steamy fun. These authors know how to deliver. Their words create a journey. And when the fabulous Michael Ferraiuolo performs, you’re lost. I can't recommend both series highly enough.

Sublimely narrated enemies-to-lovers romance.

A sweet and quirky read, I especially liked that neither Reynard nor Misha conforms to stereotypes and that their love is not only a thing of sunny days and cloudless skies, but a love that stands strong when tested. Reynard and Misha have been in a virtual game of cat and mouse for several years when Misha takes a gamble to bring matters to a head in an ultimate, brave attempt to reach for freedom and happiness. Though they were adversaries of a sort they tumble into insta-lust, maybe even insta-love even if they don’t realize it. Misha is so strong and determined to win Reynard, but he still seems surprised when Reynard chooses him and is strong for him in turn. For all his outward self-confidence Misha is endearingly vulnerable at his core. They fight for their love against unexpected enemies and for a chance at becoming a family. I really enjoyed their story, and the epilogue was very endearing.

Narration: Michael Ferraiuolo is one of my favorite narrators because he has such an incredible range of voices and can bring so much emotion and nuance to his performance. Every story he reads, he lifts to a higher level and that’s exactly what he did here.

Excellent narration for an excellent story

The audible version was very well done. Reynard’s voice was very supercilious when dealing with the world around him, but I liked that his tone became so submissive to Misha. Misha’s Russian accent was delightful. Of course Harry is the comic relief in the books and his inquiring mind lends itself well to audio.

Reynard was content. Then he discovered some one was stealing from his accounts. A clever hacker named Magpie. Overtime they both formed a strange bond with each other.

Misha was a “disgrace”, a human who was born to dragon parents. Hidden away in a cloister he taught himself hacking skills and began his assault on Reynard. When it came time for him to be mated he knew the only place he wanted to be was with Reynard.

These books have been so much fun. This one particularly. Misha and Reynard’s relationship was unusual, which added quite a zing to this book. Well written and thanks to Reynard’s brothers entertaining. Harrison, Everard, and Steve return and Harrison still remains clueless to the world around them and I keep thinking Everard has to run out of food nicknames eventually. This shouldn’t be read as a standalone. The reader needs to immerse themselves in these wonderful characters.

Michael Ferraiuolo is always wonderful! Wow! 😍

Magpie: the second Forbidden Desires Spin-Off story is a rather riveting addition to the series featuring two computer experts. Amethyst dragon Reynard Drake finds himself part of the most incredible game of cat and mouse. And against an interesting and worthy opponent, too! The elusive Magpie is Diamond Disgrace Misha Vasiliev and has been hacking his way into many dragon hoards. His favorite target? Not the treasure but the dragon--Reynard himself! He arranges to hack into the mating pairs' records and switches himself for the Disgrace originally bound as a mate for Reynard and rocks the poor guy's world. Stumbling across Reynard's unusual carnal proclivities, Misha proves to be exactly what the dragon needs both intellectual and sexual.
Though unconventional, the relationship proves to be stimulating for both men and their relationship develops while mutual respect, admiration, and love grow. This is the case even when Reynard discovers that Misha is his virtual rival, Magpie. But Misha is being tracked by someone who knows exactly who he is, what he's been doing, and where he is. This knowledge is linked to the abductions of the eggs that had to be rescued with the help of the Amethyst dragon Bertram Drake who knows all too well the dangerous nature of the quarry.
Just when readers may doubt the writers' capacity to come up with an interesting pairing for one of the Drake men, they come through beautifully with a continuance of the mating program initiated by Drs. Drake and Lessardi. They continue with the impeccable world-building and the exceptional character development that furthers the series perfectly. The cohesion for the series prevails even though to the end of the fifth book. In addition, the authors maintain optimum pacing and balance that contributes to a can't-put-it-down reading experience.

Cyber Romance

Magpie is the fifth book in the Forbidden Desires series and the second book in the Forbidden Desires Spin-Off series. I highly suggest reading all the previous books in the Forbidden Desires series before reading this one. Although it could be read as a standalone, it would end up being confusing.

Magpie is darker than the other books in the series, but it hints at what’s to come with future books. Misha and Reynard are cyber experts who have a rivalry with each other. A twist of fate has Misha and Reynard mated, but they still face difficulties and obstacles, especially from dangerous enemies. The story had a lot of action, snark, and sass.

The audiobook was narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo who did a great job with the narration. There was a lot of action that happened in this book and Michael performed it fantastically. The audiobook production was well done and I enjoyed listening to the book.

Not the best. Not a spin off. It's Erotica w/ fluf

Calling this a spin off is just false. This is definitely just a sequel due to the continuation and heavy use of references from all prior books in this series.

Whenever something is advertised as a spin off I reasonably expect a spin off. Maybe a point of view change to a different family or a significant time jump. All this book did was do what all the other books did in this series by giving a point of view change and a slight increase in the time line to a different family member within the same dragon clan. It used heavy references and details from the prior books that explain what's going on, so this is definitely not good as a stand alone or you'd feel very disconnected with any of the characters. If this was a very 'spin off' then it should be able to be a stand alone which it simply isn't.

Overall this book felt more standard, i feel like it didn't do much different to be stand out. It honestly sometimes felt rushed due to some strange inconsistent moments, especially during the beginning.
The main omega love interest for example barely was given background other then a paragraph of exposition during the beginning and then after that his development and details weren't really expanded. He just sort of jumps into a relationship full force with a supposed 'rival', and that's in quotes because he's a rival only during the brief exposition I previously mentioned. The rivalry was completely glazed over in favor of the relationship to start right away. This made the feeling of the relationship feel very unnatural and forced by plot. You will not be getting a rival to lover plot line anywhere.

The relationship was all focused on erotica more then any relationship building. Again, because of how quick the relationship started, nothing felt terribly natural and this ended up just feeling like fluff to package erotica. Which is fine, but the prior books felt more grand with their story telling which made me leaving disappointed with this book.

Either way, if you need something sexy to read, this is recommended. If you need more substance to appreciate any Erotic moments then you may want to skip this.

God series, but this book was a no.

I really like this series, but this book although it starts off fine there is a part that truly turns me off. A safe word was used and not headed. This just does not work for me.

The narration is done well and like I said I really like this series overall.

Delightful!

This is considered to be a spin off story, but beloved characters from the Forbidden Desires series make their appearances and are crucial to the plot.

Steve, one of my favorite reptiles, and adorable pink Darwin, as well as annoying (but somehow endearing) Harry are featured as well.

Magic. mayhem, and a frightening egg-knapping swirl together to make an adventure filled story. There are light elements of BDSM and lovely lingerie.

Michael Ferraiuolo is a master audio craftsman. The musical intro and exit was a delightful surprise.

Really enjoyed the story and am very happy to have added this volume to my Audible library.

The dragons are back at it

Reynard Drake is responsible for watching over the finances of the amethyst clan. He’s observed his brothers get paired up and have baby dragons. This has never been of particular interest to him. Now, however, he’s been tasked for his brother-in-law Harry’s experiment of mating ‘disgraces’ with dragons. No one likes the term disgrace, but it’s been used for centuries. When Misha Vasiliev shows up at Reynard’s doorstep, he knows something’s afoot.

Mischa’s knowledge of cybersecurity rivals Reynard’s, and he’s made it his mission to steal from dragons. He’s matched wits with Reynard many times and when the opportunity to truly best the dragon is placed in front of him, he can’t refuse. What that means, however, is coming face-to-face with his nemesis. He lets Reynard know that Magpie is now living in his house.

Reynard is, frankly, besotted. This disgrace blows into his world and nothing is ever going to be the same. When Mischa’s place in his home is threatened, Reynard stands up for the man he loves, and of course his brothers step in to help. But dark forces are powerful and it’s going to take all of the Drakes to keep their newest member safe. So there is action in the book, to be sure. There is also the humor I’ve come to expect:

Everard came to stand beside the egg bed. “Do cover yourself, brother. Good,” he added after Reynard set the pillow in front of his groin. “No one wants to see that. Have some decorum.”

“I want to,” complained Harry, taking up a post beside the bed and opposite his mate. “I was so wrapped up in studying the attack when we went to rescue the eggs that I forgot to look. I wanted to compare dragon anatomy in both lizard and human forms for ages and it’s very disappointing you won’t let me. It’s science, Ev.”

“For the millionth time, Fois Gras, no. You will not ogle my relatives in dishabille under any circumstances.”

“But Ev!” Harry pleaded. “Science.”

“Lemon Grass, you get hung up on the strangest notions.” Everard sighed. “After we’re done here, we can go home and you can sketch me in the nude to your heart’s content. How does that sound?”

These two really are my favorite couple, although all the Drakes make an appearance. Soon Mischa finds himself embraced by all the love he can handle. I got my hoard, my dragonettes, and my happy ending - what more could I ask for? Well, another book might be nice. I hope one is in the works.

Michael Ferraiuolo is the narrator for the series and he’s perfect. He does Mischa’s Russian accent perfectly and nails Reynard’s snobbish British-like accent. And, again, his Harry is spot-on. Anyway…more please!

Just what they both needed

This book has it all suspense, action and a great love story and cute baby dragons. Of course we have appearances of a lot of the characters from the earlier books in the series. I especially liked that Misha and Reynard could be who they really are. Looking forward to more books to see how the loose ends will be stitched. This can be listened to as a stand alone, but the book gives you more if you have read or listened to the previous books.
The narration was well done and consistent throughout the series.

Pretty shiny things and no honour among thieves

I love this series by Piper Scott and Virginia Kelly about dragons and their mates, their hoards and the competing clans. This spin-off series from the original Forbidden Desires stories didn't disappoint as we meet the infamous Magpie (aka omega disgrace Misha Vasiliev) who has been the bane of Reynard Drake's existence for years. I love how the two meet and discover sides of each other that they never knew existed. They bring out the best in each other, even when they're at their worst. Highly recommended Dragon shifter MPreg fated mates story, voiced by the highly talented Michael Ferraiuolo, who is one of my favourite narrators.

Magpie is a spin-off novel set in the world of Piper Scott and Virginia Kellys Forbidden Desires series. Both use theinternet, they met each other more than once, virtual, as rivals and both feel the attraction. Magpie a Thief is Misha, aka Magpie, clever as he is, manipulates his future so he can be with Reynard in Harry's experiment. Fun and games, kidnapping and falling in love happens, really enjoyed it

Great listen

Another wonderful read in the Forbidden Desires series, Magpie is both funny and sexy. The characters are wonderfully flawed, and have great chemistry together. I love how the Drake family continues to grow in both number, horde and love!
The narration by Michael Ferraiuolo continues to be outstanding. He truly brings out all the emotions with the voicing of these fantastic characters.

Humor, heat, conflict, sassy, and incredible

Reynard is not like his brothers and has found himself isolated for the most part. The one interaction he enjoys for some time is with Magpie, a hacker that tries and sometimes succeeds in breaking through his security walls. Misha has never felt like the other Disgraces in his cloister due to his wants and when he discovers where he will be placed, he takes his future into his own hands.

When these two met, Reynard is afraid of others finding out his secret desires until he discovers that those desires and wants are the same that Misha wants. As they work towards their bond, they must fight to keep their relationship.

Head's up: you will need tissues!

The narrator is incredible with all the accents and voices. He brings everyone to life and you will be sucked into the story.

Opposites attract

Misha is an omega and also a completely confident and take charge Dom which is exactly what poor, sweet, tender, and completely lost Alpha Reynard needed in order to bring some semblance of order to the chaos that his mind and therefore life have become.
Also, the fact that Misha was so confident didn't spare him his bouts of insecurities.
He struggled to believe he was worthy of love, specifically Reynard's.
His father was an especially vile person who was the root cause of his self doubts.
Thankfully Reynard was able to help quell his fears and doubts.
This book was so full of love, laughter, and hot as sin moments as well.
Michael Ferraiuolo of course has done an excellent job of bringing these characters to life.
Another absolutely stunning addition to this series.
I can't wait for the next installment.

Speak Russian To Me

Where can I sign up to hire Michael Ferraiuolo to just follow me around and speak Russian to me all day? Cause I really need that in my life.

Seriously.

This book was amazing. The chemistry between Renaud and Mischa was out of this world, and I adored the unexpected twist of their relationship. Mischa is not the type of omega to do what he is told, and I love that he not only took charge of his destiny, but helped Renaud achieve his dreams too. The emotional levels of this book were off the chart, and the audio definitely worked to emphasise this. The action scenes temper it well, and makes for a well rounded and engaging read.

As always, Ferraiuolo's narration is flawless. He has quickly become not only my favourite narrator, but is one of the only narrators I buy anymore - no one can compare. His accents are fantastic, and his control of humour and emotion is perfect.

A great book all around. 100% reccomend!

More humour, eggs and posturing dragons!

Misha (aka Magpie) is a hacker whi has his sights set on Reynard Drake’s considerable fortune. Reynard is the financial guru of the Drake dragon family, a recluse who lives simply, well, shabbily, and has never wanted a mate. He has well and truly found his match in Misha who never takes ‘no’ for an answer! Scott and Kelly could just keep inventing Drake siblings, as far as I’m concerned, they strike gold every time. Each book explores another relationship permutation with the message that “love is love”. As usual, there’s plenty of humour, dazzling eggs, and posturing dragons. The story was strong, although I felt the external threat arc failed to resolve satisfactorily - maybe there’s more to come in the next book. 🎧 Michael Ferraiuolo archly purrs his way through this, and his Russian words and accent impressed me!

Brilliantly witty, sexy and fun!

Another brilliant spin off story to this series! The intrigue and power exchanges in this book were powerful and a pure delight! Once again these wonderful authors create characters with depth, humour laden dialogue and steamy scenes.  Not to be missed - but MUST be read after the other Forbidden Desires books. Once again Michael Ferraiuolo brings sparkle, sizzle and feeling to these wondrous characters in the Audio edition!
