Story
Best-selling novelist Kate Drake is one of seven sisters gifted with amazing powers of witchcraft. Returning home in time for her northern California town's annual Christmas pageant, Kate catches the spirit of the season and decides to open a bookstore in a charming but run-down historic mill. Decorated former U.S. Army Ranger Matt Granite, now a local contractor, doesn't mind working in the undeniably eerie house -- not if it means getting closer to Kate. There's something about the quiet, sensual woman that powerfully attracts him.

Good Choice for Narrator
I really like the Drake Sisters series by Christine Feehan. This story (about eldest sister Sarah Drake) is a good first entry for the series.
It is a bit short, but I believe it (and the second entry featuring Kate Drake) were originally novellas inside anthologies. Plus "Magic in the Wind" costs less than most audiobooks, so that all evens out.
The narrator has a good voice for the narration of Sarah's story. She sounds young and somewhat sweet. That may seem a contradiction when you realize that Sarah is a security expert (supposedly versed in weapons and trained to fight), but the entire tenor of the series hangs on the idea that the Drakes are really kind young women (no matter the flashy careers or flamboyant personas shown to the world). They are the girls next door (who are actually the witches next door, but still the kind of girl your mom wants you to bring home).
It was not a syrupy-sweet reading, please do not mistake me. But it was just as I'd expect Sarah to sound.
This is a refreshing book in that the main male lead doesn't leap in to "save" the woman (even though she is much better trained and better suited to the role than he is). When this couple appears in later issues of this series they seem to be true partners. That is especially refreshing for a Feehan novel.
She has a bad tendancy to make ALL male leads so alpha as to be in serious need of a smack in the head with a heavy object. I like a good alpha hero as much as the next woman, but come ON. Some of her Dark Series "heroes" would end up dead if the heroines were like REAL women.

Can’t bring myself to finish it
I don’t usually write bad reviews unless I’m actually mad about something, and knowing that I paid money for this audio book really made me angry! The story is something I would have enjoyed when I was 13 years old sneaking drug store romance novels into the house. It’s just so bad! It’s like the outline for a good book plot but no one ever wrote the content. One minute the girl is saying she’d never fall in love, but 5 minutes later she’s spending the night with the guy. Way to stick to your guns there lady! And the dialog is so bland and lovey-dovy I kept having to turn it off. I finally just couldn’t go on. It’s like what a middle school girl thinks romance is like... no action, no distraction, no disagreements, no barriers whatsoever. Just flowery words and instant chemistry.
That’s it, I am not spending another minute thinking about this book... moving on to, hopefully, better stories!

Start of a great series
What did you love best about Magic in the Wind?
If you haven’t met the Drake sisters, this a the first book you'll want to read. Don't be concerned if you can't keep the sisters straight because you will get a chance to know each sister as the series continues. Lot's of magic and mystical happenings set with characters you will enjoy. Be aware that there is graphic (almost pornographic) sex in some of the later books. This one is pretty tame - especially since it is abridged.
Any additional comments?
I wish that an unabridged version had been an option.

Needs another narrator
What did you like best about Magic in the Wind? What did you like least?
Like the mystic but the narrator killed a lot of the story.. Not upbeat, voice changes lack and stressing of scenes (dramatic or intimate) ugghhhh
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Why the sisters were called back to the house and the 7th sister to have seven girls.. Wow!! I feel for the father..
What didn’t you like about Eve Bianco’s performance?
I am sorry I know we all have to make a living. I probably would get a bad rating for reading too. But Eve needs to stepit up..
Did Magic in the Wind inspire you to do anything?
Nope

It was ok
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I wanted to read this book because I enjoyed the rest of the Drake sisters stories. I'm glad now that I didn't read this book first (even though it was first chronologically) because it was definitely the least interesting of the series. I might have never read the rest of the books if I based my experience off this one.
Has Magic in the Wind turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, but I was disappointed.
What would have made this romance irresistible?
I think the plot was just weak compared to others in the series.

Not that impressed
Yawn. That is pretty much all I can say, I just barely hung in until the end. I have no desire to buy the others in the series. I have friends who just love this author, but I just couldn't get into the characters. Narrator was okay, but really, I don't think she had that much to work with.

So shallow - thought it was abridged
Sorry, I wanted to like this book. Purchased on sale just for a fun listen. It was so shallow and poorly developed that I thought it was a bad abridgement. The characters are empty, the story is predictable, the dialogue is sometimes painful. It was a good concept and there a few good elements of supernatural in it but it fell flat for me. I will say narrator is good.
