Great story

Loved the story, loved the characters, but every audio book is made out of another component - the narrator, and if that on is not great it is hard to listen. I stoped listening more than once because the narration was not very good.

Amazing!!

I love the way Claude interacts with the children, it shows her gentle kindness. The twists and turns in this story were fitting and not especially predictable. I especially love the twist about Madeline's mother. I adore how everyone in town grows and changes in the story. It goes to show that love really can conquer all. Excellent storytelling by the Narrator as well.

I loved listening to this

I read the book but the audio version brought so much more depth to the characters and story. The narrator brought the characters to life and brought an even more vivid picture to my mind. I highly recommend giving this a listen.

Madeleine

My first audio book, I already read Madeleine which was beautifully written by Emma! Then to sit back and relax to the narrative version by Jessica Jeffries bringing all the characters and their personalities to life was a wonderful experience. Thank you Emma and Jessica! 💜

An exceptional book

A beautiful love story between two women set against the backdrop of post World War 2 France. I absolutely loved this book. The plot is immediately engaging. From the first page you are drawn into the lives of Claudette (Claude), Madeleine, Natty and Albert. It is a joy to read and experience the relationship build up between the characters. It is obvious from reading madeleine that Emma cares about the characters she creates and once again seemingly effortlessly she crafts characters that are instantly likeable. The plot is solid and of course it wouldn’t be an Emma Nichols novel without her trademark plot twists. I have read all of Emma’s previous books and loved them all but this is by far my favourite. This book is exceptional, it is Emma Nichols writing at its finest, I would go as far as to say it is on a par with a Sarah Waters book. For me this is the book you finish reading and just want to start reading it again. Jessica Jeffries narration is superb her silky smooth voice compliments the book brilliantly.
