The 'Great Philosophers' series aims to present the life, thought and works of history's greatest thinkers to a non-specialist audience. The topics are dealt with in a simple but rigorous language that is basically suitable for anyone. The aim is to provide the reader with the essential cognitive tools to understand the fundamental features of the works of the author in question as well as the reflections produced on the authors that succeeded him.
In this issue, after describing the main characteristics of Hellenism, we will introduce the three most critical philosophical currents of this historical phase: Stoicism, Epicureanism, and Skepticism. We will present their leading advocates and explore similarities and differences, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Special attention will be paid to the thought of Epicurus, the philosopher of pleasure.
