Karen and John Patterson enjoyed having Stacey Comstock come to visit. Karen and Stacey had been close friends for over ten years now, ever since they had met in an exercise class and had found that they lived in the same suburb on the outskirts of the sprawling southern city.

Karen and John were both 49 years of age, while Stacey was 46. As they were so close in age, they would sometimes go hiking together or play golf and go bowling. When it came right down to it, Stacey was almost as close a friend to John as with Karen.

They were together often, and quite frequently Stacey would pour her heart out about the manner in which she had so many times offended and hurt people because of her brusque attitude. Even though she was successful in her field of art administration, she knew that she could have done more if she only had a more positive attitude.

Karen and John bring up a friend John had made, a man who had become a successful day trader, so successful that he gave up his position as a school principal in a rural district. And they related how the man had expressed his feelings about how much administration of corporal punishment at the school had sidetracked his attempts to spend his time on more positive efforts. At the same time, he joked that he had become quite proficient in setting backsides ablaze.

Stacey asked to speak to Karen privately at lunch several days later. And she wondered if their friend could be approached to perhaps generously apply some of his expertise to her own backside to try to get her attitude straightened out, and to make her feel that she had finally been disciplined for her past.

Now she has to hold her breath to find out if such an arrangement can be made.
