Publisher's summary

Psychic medium Simon Kincaide and his boyfriend, Myrtle Beach homicide Detective Vic D'Amato, find that the only thing more frightening than murder might be navigating their first holiday season as a couple.

A trip back to Pittsburgh to spend Thanksgiving with Vic's large, exuberant family means dodging old frenemies and a bitter ex-boyfriend. A cold case comes back to haunt Vic when a murdered woman's ghost begs Simon for justice. Then a new murder back in Myrtle Beach looks suspiciously familiar, and the dead man's ghost isn't playing nice.

When Simon gets a vision of the next victim before the crime occurs, he realizes that all the murders are supernaturally linked. Catching the murderer will take his psychic sleuthing skills along with Vic's street smarts to avert a tragedy.

Can they do right by ghosts past, present, and yet to come without ending up in the crosshairs of a killer for Christmas?

Still sweet together

I loved listening to Simon and Vic in this new adventure. A Thanksgiving visit to Vic's family in Pittsburgh lands them in the middle of a murder investigation which pits them against dark magic and forces Simon to reach deep to help defeat the enemy and prevent anyone else from becoming a victim of the wrathful being. In the process of that investigation, Simon sees ghosts that implicate Nate, Vic's former partner and friend-with-benefits, in a case of police corruption. And through it all, up to and including the investigation that shows Simon's insights on Vic's former partner were on point, both he and Vic grow closer. Vic moved in with Simon, cementing their commitment to each other. Kale Williams's performance continues to be great. I especially love his evocation of Vic with that smoky tone of voice.

Great breather book after the events of Badlands. Where Vic & Simon move in together into the blue bungalow and get to know each other better where Vic learns to accept and appreciate all Simon's gifts and what they have to offer to the MBPD.
They goto Pittsburgh for Simon to meet the D'Amato clan for Thanksgiving and see what's like to be part of an amazing family who accept him for who he is🥰

kale Williams as usual brings these characters to life he makes you feel the suspense of the books great work!

MMy Thoughts and Review:

Vic is taking Simon home to meet his big Italian family for the Holidays. Simon is nervous, but knows it is important to Vic.

While the family part is great, accidentally running into Vic's ex, and getting a vision from a woman being haunted Simon feels he should reach out to a couple of local ghost detectives.

As time progresses and Simon gets ready for the Christmas season, back home in Myrtle beach, a woman reaches out frantically with no where else to turn. Everything seems to point back to the vision Simon had in Pittsburgh.

This story is filled with awesome characters, and scenes that put the reader in the center of all the action.

It is both fun and terrifying to learn fae and fairytales might be guilty for some of the suffering people in the story go through. 😱

Lots of creepy fun, packed with Holiday season cheer and loads of comfort and joy to balance out the evil.🎅👹🎅

Kale Williams is wonderful as ever! Wow! 😍

Lucky Town: Badlands Book 1.5 starts with our guys painting the rooms of Simon's house after they move in together. Expecting the paint smell to dissipate over the course of their visit to Vic's family in Pittsburg for Thanksgiving, Simon anxiously anticipates the next crucial step in his relationship with homicide detective D'Amato. He is understandably worried about Vic's family's opinion of his work and his gifts but his biggest detractor is Nate, Vic's ex-boyfriend who is still with the police department. A ghost visits Simon during the confrontation claiming that justice was not served due to Nate's unwillingness to follow procedures on their case. Vic is understandably shaken to discover he was literally in bed with a dirty cop.
Back at Myrtle Beach after their visit to Pittsburg, Simon discovers a spirit that is tormented, fragmented, and nearly destroyed. Information gleaned determines the ghost's state is the result of a bargain the person made with a man controlling Krampus--a malevolent fae entity. So horrendously sad that folks experiencing bad luck in their lives to be punished after their lives are harvested. It isn't long before Simon is approached by a woman hoping to avoid Krampus and he bands together with his psychic allies to keep her safe and to permanently eliminate the threat.
This novella does much to further the Badlands series by introducing readers to the members of Vic's family and especially his ex-boyfriend Nate. In addition, the audience gets to witness Simon's rootworker friend, a seventy-something-year-old African American woman, do battle more directly. There are other aspects of the story that act as teasers that readers may hope will get fully fleshed out in future sequels of the series. All in all, the idea of Krampus putting in an appearance in time for Christmas was quite clever and interesting.

Lucky Town by Morgan Brice

Lucky Town by Morgan Brice
Book 1.5 of the Badlands series. Urban fantasy / Paranormal mystery with M-M romance. Best read as part of the series.
Simon and Vic travel to Pittsburgh for a family Thanksgiving where a ghost intrudes on their lives. Simon uses his psychic skills to help Vic solve the cold case.

Family, romance, a mystery to solve and a holiday. It’s all wrapped in this series continuation where we learn more about who they are, how they came to be who they are, and more depth on their abilities both natural and supernatural.
A mystery and family event that add depth and interest.
A bit slow to start but pleasantly tense as the story builds. I enjoyed getting to know these two better as their relationship progresses.
