Publisher's Summary

Jack Reilly’s luck ran out just before the war did. Released on a medical discharge shortly after the end of the war with the Serkins, he went out into the galaxy looking for a job. Signing onto the Glacier Runner 17, an old and rundown cargo ship, Rielly finds himself working for a clueless captain, mixed-up in an intergalactic conspiracy, on the run from assassins, and involved with two women in relationships that he could only call "complicated".

Fans of Matthew O. Duncan will recognize the universe as the same as from the New Terra Sagas, but this is not a sequel. This is a stand-alone spin-off with new characters, new worlds, and in a different format. Told in the first person from Reilly’s perspective, this is a fast-moving, non-stop sci-fi adventure.

Great story just to short.

I found this book to be an excellent listen with a not op Mc which is getting harder to find these days. You have an above average guy thrust in to this situation but he has good skills and makes it work. My only issue is the love triangle, I wish that part was just left out. I was able to listen to this book straight through with no breaks needed (minus stopping for work). I definitely recommend this book and am starting book 2 soon.

Great Military Adventure!

Story is well written. Any adult situations were tactfully described with more than just the physical aspect only. The narration was quite smooth and professional. All Military action was described as though the author had Military experience. I recommend this book for ages 16+ due to tense situations depicted. I was given the audiobook for free, and I freely do give my evaluation of it.

Exciting action

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book and I am leaving this review voluntarily. The opinions are my own. The narrator was fantastic. He pronounced his words very clearly and was easy to listen to. This book is full of action and thrills. I enjoyed the characters. Lt. Reilly had some MacGyver type solutions to their problems and that was very entertaining. I will definitely read the second book.

Don't mess with the Engineer.

Really fun story. I loved how the humble retired-ish Reilly stayed one step ahead of everyone throughout the entire story. Well, maybe not his relationships, but the enemy at least. Lots of mystery, action and pulling victory from the jaws of defeat. If I'm going to space, I'd like him in the engine room!

A great old-fashioned Space Opera

First, to get it out of the way. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. That being said, this is a great story for anyone that loves the Science Fiction of the John W. Campbell era. This story has the flavor of those stories written by Andre Norton, Eric Frank Russell, and others of that time. The story flows well, The narrator gives life to the characters and, and the combination I found, left the story ending much sooner than I wanted.

Please say there is a book two!

This was easily one of my most enjoyable books this year!! I loved the main character, Jack Reilly!! He was smart, military, older, and wiser. And he kept saving the day!!!!! The two main females were equal parts soft and hard. Together they rounded out all the rough edges for Jack and made for some very interesting interplay. The narrator was something special. This book was non-stop action with a variety of characters. Everything was performed to perfection. I can't tell from the title if this is a series but I certainly hope so!!

A Space Opera

Have heard this saying before and really understood the term space opera but now I can say this audible is A Space Opera. You have a loner who is a mechanic on a space transport ship, a women on the same ship who and finally a officer of the Space JAG. The two mechanics can not stay out of trouble and after the ship they were on crashed and burned they are accused of murder now the third person of this trio comes into place the Pretty Female JAG officer. In addition to the above you have pirates, murders, deserters and finally criminal mobs put all these factors together you have the perfect space opera. The story is based around the crew of the Glacier Laser who is a very badly outfitted space transport now the captain is doing some shady deals and the ship crashed the the two mechanics one who was on leave and one who had quit. They are thrown into a world of hurt they are accused of murder and arrested and then the story starts to get interesting and full of mismatched romance and adventures. I truly recommend this auibal and I am sure you enjoy it and make sure you have the second book in that one the adventures continues

Military Sci-Fi, humor, action

This was a fun adventure. This man was part of the military, but now retired, or discharged, he has to find work on various spaceships. Well, he picked an idiotic captain. It was more of the captain's mother picked him, probably to keep her son safe, but when that didn't work out, Jack took off with a beautiful woman from the ship, as they flee for their lives from people hunting them. The problem? They have no idea why. This is a fun military Sci-Fi adventure. Filled with romance, humor, and action. I'll definitely be checking out more by this author! Great Narration!
