Publisher's summary

Finally - a theology of love that will help you navigate the confusing waters of modern relationship.

In the beginning, God created Adam. Then he made Eve. And ever since we've been picking up the pieces.

With an autobiographical thread that turns a book into a story, pastor and speaker John Mark Comer shares about what is right in male/female relationships - what God intended in the Garden. And about what is wrong - the fallout in a post-Eden world.

Loveology starts with marriage and works backward. Comer deals with sexuality, romance, singleness, and what it means to be male and female; ending with a raw, uncut, anything goes Q and A dealing with the most asked questions about sexuality and relationships.

This is a book for singles, engaged couples, and the newly married - both inside and outside the church - who want to learn what the scriptures have to say about sexuality and relationships. For those who are tired of Hollywood's propaganda, and the church's silence. And for people who want to ask the why questions and get intelligent, nuanced, grace-and-truth answers, rooted in the scriptures.

Can't Trust The Author. Stopped Listening.

What would have made Loveology better?

Having solid research as the basis for statistics

Has Loveology turned you off from other books in this genre?

This book has made me not want to read anything else the author wrote.

How could the performance have been better?

Not only did the author mention a false statistic, but he spent time to expand and emphasize things ABOUT this false statistic.

Any additional comments?

The divorce rate is NOT 50%. It is about 25%. The reason why people think it's 50% is because that statistic came from couples who were ALREADY GOING TO MARITAL COUNSELING...not the couples who were married in general. To start off the book with a sloppy, untrue statistic 5 minutes into the book and then stress it so much ("Flip a coin!") made me distrust whatever other statistic or information he might have mentioned later on. This may have been a nice book, but you should be able to trust the author knows what he's talking about.

Orthodox Rob Bell

I would have loved this ten years ago, but it's not what I was expecting when I picked it out. Loveology is a book on dating, sex and romantic relationships written in the style of Rob Bell, from a conservative Christian perspective. It's well written for that style, though I spent the majority of my time wondering what John Mark's unique voice would sound like. Ultimately, the subject matter wasn't what I was looking for. I was expecting it to tackle broader human issues of sexuality, similar to Rob Bell's Sex God. This is solely focused on romantic relationships though, and does not talk about how love and sexuality permeates every relationship we have as Christians. It was good, and I think most Evangelicals will love it, it's just not what I was expecting.

A brilliant book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

To any Christian, no matter what point of a relationship they are in, I would recommend listening or reading this book. It is straightforward and unapologetic when it comes to discussing God's version of what a marriage should look and feel like.

Beautiful

One of the best books on relationships that I’ve read. John answered some of the most difficult questions about marriage for me.

Practical engaging great wit Scriptural.

Well written, honest, practical, and Scripturally solid. Great humor and wonderful dialogue in the Q&A at the end. Great for would be couples, singles, couples of all ages who are interested in growing deeper in love with each other and with our Lord and Redeemer Jesus. Thank you for being faithful to what God, Yahweh breathed and put on your heart to share.

Biblical relationship advice

I liked the candid discussion and transparency, as well the Q and A section. Examples and showing the biblical support for the view was helpful.

Highly Recommend

This book is a really good book that dives into romantic relationships in a way I had not heard of before. Seems like there are different sections within a chapter that help and allow you to understand and explore the differences between different season. This book receives a 100/10 from me.

Great, except...

The 10th commandment prohibits A man from lusting after his neighbor's wife or as Jesus would say after any woman. By inference this means desire, lust, or covet (same word in Hebrew) your own wife.
My only objection are the portions where lust is is painted as dirty.
Many Christian marriages lack that intimate fire and romance, when they buy into that error in teaching that lust is never right. It's like saying we should never desire our spouses.
Study that Hebrew word for lust, desire and covet. It's the same one. And in Psalms David says "more to be desired are they than gold...".
In earthly relationships, we direct our passion on whom we chose to marry, and ravinously desire them.
