Publisher's Summary

He found her at her worst, can she love him at his?

Eva Arnsby can’t stay indoors, her need to draw the woodland creatures around her home near Lead, South Dakota gets her in a heap of trouble. And none more troublesome than a shadowy stranger who steals her notebook and her spirit.

Ranger, Captain George Roth, is suspicious when he finds a small woman in man’s trousers sneaking around in the woods. Determined to discover the woman’s secrets, he takes on an assignment, ready to investigate her under the guise of a harmless town dandy.

A chameleon in a suit, Mr. George Roth is asking too many questions, and wearing too many masks. Despite Eva’s reluctance, they work together, and soon, she sees parts of George she can’t resist. Shouldn’t she follow her heart? But when the mask slips, and Eva realizes George isn’t who she thinks he is, the damage to her heart may never be mended.

One lie will break them apart, and George must convince her that the man she fell for in Lead is the same man who loved her in the woods.

3rd Sister's Story-Old West faith filled romance.

This series of Seven Sisters all becoming brides is quite good. Set in the old West, when the United States was first being expanded out to the western borders, each sister has an unique story of finding love. This sister is trying to figure out her future. She feels that she will be alone and when the chance comes up, will she allow herself a few minutes of desire realized or will she allow fear to reign. These are great books that can be read as part of the series or standalones. The narration brings the story to life. The Christian background of the characters is nicely woven throughout.

Follow the flower.

"This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review." I haven't read books 1 or 2, but I believe it would have been a good thing to do. This book is a stand alone, but there are references to the other books that I would have loved to know about. 'Love in Lead' is a good story, it's clean but still has romance in it. The plot involves Captain Roth investigating to see if Eva is helping the Indians. Their relationship is kind of tepid for a while, but of course love wins in the end.

In disguise

The way Ranger George and Eva met was uncomfortable to say the least. She dressed as a man for comfort and him thinking she was a spy. He sets it up to work together on a project in town and she doesn't recognize him. As they fall in love and she finds out what he is about its a wonder if she will ever forgive him. I received a complimentary audio and this review is voluntary.

Heartfelt series!

Kari Trumbo is giving me a whole new family to love! This story gives us Eva, not your typical early 1900's woman. She enjoys being outdoors and finds solace drawing her surroundings. When George Roth comes upon her, he is suspicious of what she has drawn and steals her notebook. After hitting her head, Eva is unable to remember what happened, so when George is now working with her, she does not realize he is the culprit that has her treasures. George is working for the army and is now stuck between his feelings for Eva, and his duty to find out if she is working with the Indians! Will this work out in their favor? I love Trumbo's writing. She is able to give visuals of her surroundings so we are setting in a historical age, and immersing in the innocence of the time. Eva is a sweet character, unable to come to terms with her short term memory loss of what happened. She is concerned she may have been taken advantage of and George will not want her. George is struggling with his own demons, trying to figure out how to prove Eva's just an artist that enjoys drawing and wanting to make her his own. Their struggles become our struggles, their faith our own and their love our own.

Narrated by Meghan Kelly, this book flows full of passion and adventure. Meghan has the perfect voice for historical romance, giving each character personality. In this case she still shows Eva's innocence with inflections of her voice and a the struggle that George goes through with frustration. I love her performance, each time she pulls me right in and keeps me captivated.

Charming romance

Love in Lead is a charming romance in the Seven Brides of South Dakota series by Kari Trumbo. Although third in the series, it is easily a stand-alone story. I have enjoyed several other books by this author and was looking forward to reading this book and was not disappointed. The story moves quickly with a few twists and turns to the plot that helped to keep my interest. Eva is a naive young woman who loves to draw and often goes off into the woods to draw, not realizing the danger she puts herself in. Captain Roth comes upon someone he thinks is a man and is suspicious of the person being involved with the Indians in the area. What a surprise when he realizes the man is really Eva in men's trousers. He is assigned to discover if she is a traitor and the adventures begin. The author has captured well the era of the setting and the emotions and actions of her characters. They are realistic and relatable and I was drawn quickly into their story and enjoyed watching the romance develop between George and Eva. Readers of historical romance books will not want to miss this one. I listened to a complimentary copy of the audio version of the book and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own. Meghan Kelly does a great job narrating George and Eva's story, which made the listening experience enjoyable.

Perfectly wonderful

What a wonderful story and narration! Kari Trumbo creates magic with her words and descriptions to the point I can almost see the story unfold. Eva has been lonely ever since an incident her and her twin being separated and now she was married. Going outside and a little bit away from her home, she sketches nature and even an indian brave that came upon her one day.
Through a series of events she comes under suspicion of aiding the Indians by a Ranger, Capt George, who has been keeping an eye on the Indians and their movements
This is a story of building trust, finding the truth and the building of a love that will endure by two people who never expected it.
Simply beautiful and with the narration of Meghan Kelly, it was Perfect!

Sweet historical romance with great narration

Eva and George’s story pulled me right in. Love in a Lead is an engaging story with well-developed characters. As usual, Kari Trumbo wrote a good, solid, clean romance, and Meghan Kelly beautifully narrated it.

Really enjoyed this historical western

I love historical western romances and l wasn't disappointed in this story which I enjoyed as an audible. I loved that the heroine pushed back against social norms of the time. This added to the tension in the story as the hero was confused by the heroine's choices. Great story with a HEA.

Eva and George!

Lead is a town near to where the family have settled and this is where Eva (the other twin sister) and a ranger by the name of George Roth slowly fall in love.
Theirs is a very strained love story with George believing that Eva is being treasonous and betraying her country.
The story itself is well written and kept me listening long past my bedtime. I just love it when that happens!
The main characters are quite believable and very endearing even though the both have faults, but these are forgivable as the story progresses.
The narration is what I have come to expect of Meghan Kelly. She is really a pleasure to listen to with her very good and recognizable voices (even the male ones), clear diction and emotions that come through in her speech.
I am very happy to recommend this third book/audiobook in the series and hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
I requested and listened to an audiobook and my voluntary review above is unbiased.
