A young heiress in mourning for her mother's death, Kimberly Richards has been abandoned by her lifelong fiancé. But Kimberly's father, the recently widowed Earl of Amburough, is intent upon marrying her off as quickly as possible - to please the jealous lover he longs to wed.

So the rather indelicate business of matchmaking begins. And Lachlan MacGregor, the dashing and newly impoverished Laird of Clan MacGregor, is deemed the worthy suitor. Kimberly, however, harbors a deep-seated dislike for Scots, gold-diggers, and the whole woeful state of affairs in general. Therefore, a tryst with the handsome, haughty Lachlan seems dubious at best.

But strange turns and outrageous circumstances promise to lead the ill-matched pair to a wildly unexpected destination - and to open a resisting heart to the glories of true love.

This is the story of Lachlan and Lady Kimber. I loved that they did not meet under romantic circumstances and their first impressions of each other reflected that. The matchmaking efforts of their hosts and Lachlan's infatuation with another made for a funny situation. There is also a final revelation from Kimber's father that will play a bigger role in another book in the series called "The Pursuit" which narrates the story of their daughter Melissa and Lord Lncoln. The 16 or 17 uncles will be major players in that one. These are the type of books that made Johanna Lindsey a bestselling author in the romance genre. I highly recommend this one and "the Pursuit". I am also happy to see that audible has added many other bestselling titles. I cannot review them since I had read/listened to them elsewhere, but I highly recommend "Gentle Rogue", "Marriage Most Scandalous", "Captive of My Desires" and "Loving Scoundrel". They are my favorites. They are all funny, sweet with pirates, rogues, ship captains and/or dashing heroes. You won't regret getting them.

Light hearted, sweet and enjoyable romance.

One of my favorite; through the years I have read and listen about 15 time and never t ire of it. I laugh and cry and never want it to end. This story takes me away to the highlands. Each time I want to meet the characters in person .

This was a pleasure to listen to it’s been a long time since I’ve read any of her books. And I loved the narrator. Good job. Thank you.

This story was wonderful, not the usual see each other fall in love type. It made you want to keep reading to see what would happen and where the twist and turns would come in. I haven't read much of Johanna Lindsey's books but will look forward to more and the narrator never heard him before, but look forward to. Great book overall!!!!

I have read this book twice and listened to it five times, if not more. Everything about this book is great.

I loved it after I got into it a bit. I thought it was a bit slow to start with. It was a pleasure to listen to the many voices of the narrator.

Loved it.

The Malory Novels are wonderful. I only wish that Audible would get all of the Malory Novels.

Lachlan needs a rich wife because his stepmother has run away with all his clan's money, which was Lachlan's inheritance. Kimberly needs to get married because her father wants her out of his house so he can marry a widow. They end up at the home of Meghan and Duncan, a Duke and his Duchess, from the first book in the series. Lachlan had met Meghan before and had tried to run away with her, but Duncan had stopped that nonsense. Lachlan has not recovered from his infatuation and Kimberly knows it, but she has strong feelings for him. Lachlan treats her horribly. I found him to be arrogant, rude, abusive, mean and flippant. He was also a rapist. It took me a long time to warm up to him, and I never could really get over the way he treated Kimberly in the beginning. But as you assume from the very first, Lachlan and Kimberly end up getting married and go to his home in the Highlands. There are several plot lines: (1) Kimberly's father's dislike of Kimberly, (2) Lachlan's stolen inheritance, (3) stolen horses, (4) the renown Ian McPherson and his sixteen sons, (5) the hateful Nessa who loves Lachlan.

The first part of the book dragged and the last part went along a warp speed. It cold have been balanced better. However it was an interesting story and was performed extremely well by Michael Page.
