Publisher's Summary

Walk the path of love with one of the warmest, most beloved spiritual leaders of our time and learn how to put faith into action.

As the descendant of slaves and the son of a civil rights activist, Bishop Michael Curry’s life illustrates massive changes in our times. Much of the world met Bishop Curry when he delivered his sermon on the redemptive power of love at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle. Here, he expands on his message of hope in an inspirational road map for living the way of love, illuminated with moving lessons from his own life. Through the prism of his faith, ancestry, and personal journey, Love Is the Way shows us how America came this far and, more important, how to go a whole lot further.

The way of love is essential for addressing the seemingly insurmountable challenges facing the world today: poverty, racism, selfishness, deep ideological divisions, competing claims to speak for God. This audiobook will lead listeners to discover the gifts they need in order to live the way of love: deep reservoirs of hope and resilience, simple wisdom, the discipline of nonviolence, and unshakable regard for human dignity.

Critic Reviews

“Bishop Curry proclaims and lives the way of love that has the power to transform broken systems and imperfect people. This book is a gift for our time, as is my dear brother. Listen to him." (Bishop William J. Barber, II, co-chair of the Poor People's Campaign; author of We Are Called to Be a Movement)

"The author’s gentle storytelling and emphasis on the supremacy of the power of love persuades and convicts, making evident why he has become one of the world’s most celebrated and sought-after religious leaders. A powerful meditation on social justice and religion that will engage a variety of readers." (Library Journal

Hopeful and grateful

I am a Christian who has often felt like Gandhi when he said, “I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians.” I would clarify it, though, to add, “Those who profess to be Christians but do not love.” This book has been a sweet gift to my battered soul, and I will be giving it as gifts, and recommending it to others.

Thank you, Bishop Curry! Please keep preaching about the power of Love, because, as Jimi Hendrix so aptly prophesied, “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.” Amen!

Compelling

I first became aware of Bishop Curry recently when he was interviewed on MSNBC. I liked his manner of speech and his message so I looked for his book on Audible hoping that if it was there that it would be narrated by him as well. Oh joy! His folksy speech on the show was different but I have still enjoyed listening to him. I will try to take to heart what he said about not having to like someone in order to pray for them. I have spent a lot of time being angry and frustrated with the current situation and I need to find a way to let it go. I hope this is that way.

Wonderful book!

Although I’ve attended the Episcopal Church for 15 years (after being raised in the Church of Christ), I’ve not thought much about reading Rev Curry’s book. And I regret to say, I’ve followed little about him. Well after reading this, I have become one of his raving fans I will actively seek out his sermons and anything else he has to say. He speaks truth from the Spirit and while I’m coming around more in some long held traditions and beliefs, his style challenges me to seek out differing yet grounded opinions and be wary of only exposing myself to those opinions I agree with. He is welcoming, respecting, grounded and most of all shares his love and dedication to our Lord. What more could we ask for in a leader! One of my most favorite books ever.

Beautiful

I am no longer a Christian, but I'd go back to church if I could hear him preach. Elegant simplicity and going back to the basics of what Jesus taught. Just beautiful.

Like a living presence

Bishop Curry spoke at my graduation from Episcopal Divinity School. His voice is unbelievable. Of course, he did not get as wound up in reading the book as he did when doing our commencement service! I love him as a powerful speaker, but also because of what he has to say. We read this book as part of a book study in our parish in Maine, and to have it read to me by the bishop himself was indeed a great privilege. I found I had to follow often in the written text to highlight those things that I wanted to keep in mind. Thank you, Bishop Curry, for reading this book to us!

Enjoyed the book a great deal and keep enjoying it as it impacts my daily life. The conversation between the two men was eye opening and even life view changing. Thank you for your honesty and your humanness.
