Once upon a time in Mayfair a group of wallflowers formed a secret society with goals that had absolutely nothing to do with matrimony. Their most troublesome obstacle? Rogues!

They call her Beastly Beatrice.

Wallflower Lady Beatrice Bentley longs to remain in the wilds of Cornwall to complete her etymological dictionary. Too bad her brother’s Gothic mansion is under renovation. How can she work with an annoyingly arrogant and too-handsome rogue swinging a hammer nearby?

Rogue. Scoundrel. Call him anything you like as long as you pay him.

Navy man Stamford Wright is leaving England soon and renovating Thornhill House is just a job. It’s not about the duke’s bookish sister or her fiery copper hair. Or the etymology lessons the prim-yet-alluring lady insists on giving him. Or the forbidden things he'd love to teach her.

They say never mix business with pleasure. But when Beatrice and Ford aren't arguing, they're kissing.

Sometimes temptation proves too strong to resist…even if the cost is a heart.

New author for me. This is first in a series of 3 and I will definitely try the next one. Not the usual “Oh, they are so handsome/ beautiful and I just have to marry them.” No violence, plot to kidnap, runaway to Scotland, etc. Captivating main characters: good chemistry, banter, and humor. Painful, sad histories but these were important to the plot and interpersonal dynamics. Strong, positive, feminist women whose stories are part of the series. Also liked the supporting cast and their stories that were woven artfully into the overall story and provided depth.

Super great story

a refreshing tale. I especially liked the narrator's take on M, but a good all round performance

fun story, typical romance with a few extra obstacles to overcome .use of word rogue a little redundant. looking forward to the other interesting characters of the ladies knitting society to be developed in the upcoming books

Lenora Bell has become one of my favorite authors. She has a fresh take on historical romances. Also, it doesn’t hurt that she usually sprinkles lots of steamy moments through her books, along with a couple of really great sexy scenes.
Why Ms Bell (or her publisher) continue to use Beverly A. Crick, as narrator, is beyond my comprehension! This was a really entertaining and well written book. Unfortunately, I felt like I had to SUFFER through it because of the irritating narration. Beverly A. Crick’s dreadful accent makes Mr. Wright sound ABSOLUTELY WRONG!

Great book, but...

I really enjoyed this book, my first read by Lenora Bell. Interesting characters with a bit of a quirky heroine. Both the hero and heroine have baggage to overcome to get their HEA, and Bell does it nicely. The angst was short which I liked. The "knitting" group is great. I will definitely be reading more by Lenora Bell.
