The New York Times #1 bestseller (3 weeks running) is now available in paperback. Losing It is popular actress, Jenny Craig spokeswoman, and America’s sweetheart Valerie Bertinelli's headline-making account of her complicated past and how she took control of her own life to gain self-esteem and happiness.

Valerie Bertinelli, then: bubbly sitcom star and America's Sweetheart turned tabloid headline and rock star wife. Now: actress, single working mother of teenage rock star, and weight-loss inspiration to millions.

We all knew and loved Valerie Bertinelli years ago when she was girl-next-door cutie Barbara Cooper in the hit TV show One Day at a Time, and more recently when she starred in numerous TV movies and co-starred in Touched by an Angel. From wholesome prime time in America's living rooms, Valerie moved to late nights with the hardest-partying band of the decadent eighties when she became, at twenty, wife to rock guitarist Eddie Van Halen. Losing It is Valerie's frank account of her life backstage and in the spotlight: the ups and downs of teen stardom, her complicated marriage to a brilliant, tormented musical genius, the joys of motherhood, and her very public struggle with her weight.

Surprising, uplifting, and empowering, Losing It chronicles Valerie's journey as she finds new love, raises a terrific kid, and motivates other women to take back their lives.©2008 Tuxedo Ltd.; (P)2008 Simon and Schuster Inc.

This isn't a weight loss book, although she does discuss her weight issues throughout. It's much more than that. She discusses her entire life, pre-fame, One Day at A Time, marriage to Eddie Van Halen, motherhood, with a great deal of honesty. If you came of age watching One Day at a Time, you'll enjoy this book very much. Valerie herself narrates, and does a great job. It's like listening to a good friend talk about her life.
If you're looking for just another "how to" weight loss book, this is not for you.

Delightful look at Valerie's life and struggles with weight. I think much of what makes an audible book good is the readers tone and connection with the listener. Valerie did an awesome job narrating, it wasn't like she was reading, it was more like you were sitting with her chatting about her life.

Entertaining

Plain and simple, if you are curious about Valarie Burtinelli's life, you will enjoy listening to her account. The book is not literary but an easy listen where you can kick back and relax. For those who enjoy autobiographies of the rich and famous, not only do you hear about her life first hand, but gain insight into the mindset of someone who struggles with body weight and how it overtakes your thoughts, in essence your entire being. Her struggle with codependency, her weight, and her own identify are presented very graceously and honestly.

I loved this book, loved hearing Valeries voice narrating, I have loved her, Eddie and Van Halen for years and love hearing her story! I’m just so sad that most of her life was based on weight and she had to struggle with that for so long!

Very good book!

it's nice to hear the human side of the celebrities and not just what you read in the tabloids (not that I believe them) I love Valerie's cooking show and even tried some of her recipes and I love how genuine and down to earth she is her size does NOT matter! but I do agree with her question , why are peoples imperfections entertaining to people?? doesn't make sense....just keep being your genuine self valerie! be happy ! some of love your personality....no matter what size

very inspirational
