Publisher's Summary

Sheltered small-town girl Gretchen Brannon was utterly out of her element when she aligned herself with Sheikh Philippe Sabon, the formidable ruler of Qawi. They came from different worlds, yet she found a soul mate in the powerful, sensual man who'd suppressed his passions for far too long, and harbored a secret anguish. But he made this virtuous young woman aware of her own courage and, in turn, she aroused his sleeping senses as no other woman could.

However, now that Gretchen's heart belonged to the Lord of the Desert, danger loomed when she became the target for vengeance by the sheikh's most diabolical enemy. In a final showdown that would pit good against evil, could love and destiny triumph?

A major disappointment.

I love Diana Palmers books and looked forward to "reading" them in the audible version. Imaging my shock and dismay when I realized that one of my favorite of her books had been butchered to the point that the story was ruined, the characters were flat and the romance gone. Save your money, buy the written version. It's so much better than this. If they ever get the unabridged version then it will be worth the money.

Not Much To It!

Not a bad idea for a story if it had been better developed. There really wasn't much to it. The story just wasn't believable.

Sometimes a narrator can improve upon a poorly written book, but not this one. Her Texas accent wasn't bad at times, sometimes I thought she sounded like Dolly Parton, from Tennessee.

Awful

This was awful. I'm not sure if it was the writing that bothered me so much or the narrator, who spoke the heroine's lines breathlessly and the hero's lines in an odd old-man accent. How can you enjoy a book when the voices conjure images of Barbie and Walter Matthau (sorry, Walt) having an affair? A wasted 3 hours. Oh, well, at least I got my ironing done.

Missing most of the ending of the book

I truly love her books but I had a funny feeling about the ending of this audible. I have read all the books and knew there was a chunk missing. When I went back to my actual book to double check i knew for sure that sadly you don't actually get what you paid for.

Abridged Classic 2000

Audible Escape
Gads, I used to love reading Diana-Palmer books when they were first published, but the material abridged and narrated by an unknown is pretty hard to get through in 2020. I do use the 1.25x speed to match the adventure.
Well, now after listening to a few of these dated books, some have lasted the test of time with good writing and story line. This book in its original full length was good and reflected an author who could write romance but did not feel the need to enter into erotica. She made her hero’s very macho and her heroines very proper. Nothing wrong with that, but if you are looking for a more wilder adventure, then these books are not it.
Before using a credit, make sure you check the publishers date and not just the recorded date if you want a more racier novel as these old classics are pretty tame compared to 2020 erotica authors.

overall good listen

I liked this book it kinda read fast and for me the story was like a climb that never stopped until you got to the top.
I wonder if there is a story behind the friend that had to leave and if so what Is the name of it?

Delightful story, but only half the book

One of Diana's best, with all the romance, intrigue, action and swoon filled moments you could want... but only half of the real book which was very disappointing. May be an abridged version, so please be aware.

The book is abridged

The book is abridged and they removed entire scenes. It feels like 2 chapters are gone at the end. I loved the book but the audio left much to be desired.
