Publisher's Summary

Ian Carmichael stars as Lord Peter Wimsey in these definitive BBC radio dramatisations of Dorothy L Sayers' classic crime novels.

Aristocratic amateur sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey was the master creation of Dorothy L Sayers, widely acknowledged as one of the four original 'Queens of Crime'. These full-cast adaptations - first broadcast on BBC radio in the 1970s, and presented here in their entirety - are admired by fans of the genre worldwide.

Whose Body? is the tale that first introduced Lord Peter to the world, and sees him investigating the case of a corpse in a Battersea bathtub and a vanished oil millionaire.

In Clouds of Witness, Lord Peter's eldest brother stands accused of murder. In collaboration with Inspector Parker, Wimsey slowly uncovers a web of lies and deceit within his own family....

Unnatural Death finds Peter probing the mysterious death of an elderly lady. He suspects foul play, and with the help of the indomitable Miss Climpson, sets about his investigations in deepest Hampshire....

Produced by Simon Brett (author of the Charles Paris series), these acclaimed dramas also feature Peter Jones, Patricia Routledge, Miriam Margolyes and Garard Green.

Great to have the LPW stories on Audible.

I read all the books 25 years ago. It's wonderful to hear them as I cook. I forgot how I missed Ian Carmichael voice and the friendship of Charles, Bunter and Peter.

Lord Peter brought to life

So excited to have Ian Carmichael's Lord Peter Wimsey available in both dramatic & novel form. Please add Busman's Honeymoon in both forms to Audible. These are gems of the Golden Age detective stories .

Loved It!

Loved every one of these stories and will purchase all the volumes. Ian Carmichael is the marvelous thread that strings them all together though all of the narrators are excellent.

It was music that made me remove a star

I love books of almost every genre (excluding romance, non-fiction, and westerns) and English murder mysteries have a special place in my heart HOWEVER I had the worse time with that music!! There was no need. It didn’t add to anything and worse it was recorded at a higher decibel than the narration. I wear earphones (very very good ones) and was gardening while listening to this and at times the narrators voices became almost whispers then suddenly that infernal music would blast my eardrums. Had the stories themselves been unentertaining then I would have given up. I also do find that the mix of so many voices does tend to confuse one as we are expected to KNOW the characters by voice alone at times. And some of the narrators rushed through their lines that I missed a bit here and there.
All in all, if you can find these books read by ONE person you will definitely find it more enjoyable. However based on the story itself I have to give credit where credit is earned and this book earned my credit

Nothing better!

BBC adaptations are a great listen, especially the dramatic mystery series originally written by the greats!

Irritating

I really wanted to like this but found that instead of 3 separate stories, each was separated into the original BBC episodes, with attendant irritating music and credits between each. The music is so loud that I had to keep turning the volume down and when I turn it up to listen to the speech sections every so often it becomes really quiet and you can't hear what's being said. The constant interruptions just irritated me and ruined the story.

Dramatisation

Really enjoyed these dramatisations, and it is really complementary to the book. Recording sounds dated now, but that is in keeping with the material!

Fun

Carmichael makes a good Peter and delivers the language well, doing the best that can be done off screen or off page to convey the emotional changes and darkness that his character must embrace. Fun to listen to as a cast affair.

Classic and well performed Lord Peter Wimsey

Charming, intelligent, club land hero with a difference, Dorothy L Sayers Lord Peter Wimsey detective story. A pity not unabridged, but well performed and superbly played by Ian Carmichael. It is a tragedy that the Audible unabridged versions of the D. L. Sayers books are appallingly badly read.

Author and cast in top form...

Ian Carmichael and Peter Jones are the definitive Wimsey and Bunter. Carmichael's hard work studying Wimsey's persona led to brilliant characterisation, and Bunter's laconic and deferential understatements are a gem of the relationship between man and master in English society. Oh that it could be so nowadays. Dorothy L Sayers is first amongst equals for me.

Easy listening

I enjoyed these light hearted gentleman sleuths. The narration is spot on, and the plots interesting, but you can't take the characters too seriously. Good easy listening series.
