Story
Jenny Fletcher had selflessly put her needs and dreams behind those of her fiancé, Hal, a man more committed to a cause than to her. On the eve of his departure for Central America, he gave Jenny what she wanted more than anything... one passionate night. It was his final gift. Cage Hendren was the opposite of his brother, Hal, in every way. The black sheep of the family, he was all rough edges, with a soft spot for just one thing: Jenny.

Story
From the start, Kerry Bishop anticipated danger: She expected unimaginable fear. In a terrifying race to save nine children, she prepared for the fight of her life. But she wasn’t prepared for a passion almost as dangerous as the mission she had undertaken. At the first, Linc O’Neil appeared to be exactly the kind of man Kerry needed: strong, ruthless and definitely too drunk to care about helping her steal a truck to get past the guards.

Publisher's Summary
He arrived out of the blue, a flesh-and-blood phantom from the past in a sports car as sleek and sexy as Law Kincaid himself. The world-famous astronaut was as devastatingly attractive as the first time Marnie Hibbs had laid eyes on him, 17 years before. But she well knew the perils of falling for a ladies' man like Law. And this time she had someone besides herself to protect. Law is determined to discover who is sending him anonymous letters claiming he'd fathered a son he knows nothing about. Showing up at the Hibbs' return address from the letters seemed like a step in the right direction. Marnie swears she isn't the guilty party, but when Law meets her son, it's like a one-two punch to his solar plexus. The boy is nearly the spitting image of Law. Law can't remember sleeping with Marnie; then again, he can't remember much about his crazy past. But there's more to it than that: Marnie claims the boy isn't biologically hers.
As the tension between them becomes unbearable and the attraction undeniable, Marnie is forced to reveal a long-held secret...one that might cause her to lose both the boy she loves more than anyone, and the man she desires more than anything.

I love it!
Long Time Coming was one of my first romance books and hooked me on the genre and especially on Sandra Brown. I have all of her books and have been collecting them on audio. I love this one. I realize it was written years ago but the story is still tender and will always be a favorite of mine. I hope you all buy this one and enjoy it as I have.

Not long enough
This book was a total disappointment. The main character had a very strange, sick sense of responsibility. She hates her sister for the mistakes she made in her life, yet she herself seems to repeat the same mistakes without seeing the parallel. The reader is supposed to feel pity for her long suffering, but I couldn't help but wonder at the message and the rampant stupidity. She is forced to take on the responsibilities of motherhood when she herself was still a child, and it seems to me that she is no more ready for parenthood than her sister was. Is it really noble to take on parental responsibilities you're not ready for? Adoption was never discussed. This is really a story of a sick sense of duty and the resentment the main character felt because she was cheated out of a normal childhood and the chance to marry/ have a child of her own when she was emotionally and financially able to take care of a child due to the actions of a sibling. Yet the contradictions make you dizzy. Why would someone who feels so strongly about abortion have unprotected sex? The whole story left me kind of ill.

Yuk
Ok, I listened to the whole thing because I'm too cheap not to, but this book, from the name of the main male character (Law Kincaid) to the inclusion of every knee-jerk, tear-jerk situation, was silly and insulting. Another reviewer says the book's "really old," which may explain why Sandra Brown's work seems to range so widely from truly gripping to totally absurd. This book is the latter.

Total Fluff
This book was so unrealistic. The female lead was a total martyr. The male character was a playboy unbelievably captivated by the martyr. The narrator made my skin crawl as she read the intimate details of the characters' relationship. Yuck. I will stay away from both the author and narrator from now on.

hard to swallow
The story and romance was well written, but the main characters were just too hard to believe for their roles. She was nearly always frigid and rude - but somehow he became totally captivated by her. And he was a womanizing jerk, nothing real charming about him. Yet she secretely desired him. The story of their past (and why she was still single) made me role my eyes in disbelief numerous times. If you can handle a lot of "that would never really happen", then you might enjoy this book more than I did. In the end, it was a good romance story.

'Contemporary' in 1980's Space Shuttle Program 🚀
If you could sum up Long Time Coming in three words, what would they be?
Sweet dated romance.
To elaborate: Sandra Brown wrote this in the late 1980s. This conclusion is due to the references to the space shuttle program and the the Challenger space shuttle accident.I don't use the word 'dated'As a negative, perhaps a better word would be 'era.'
Who was your favorite character and why?
Marnie Was the most sympathetic character, however as David learned about his parentage he was endearing.
Which scene was your favorite?
The last one. I won't describe why because that will spoil the ending.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I did listen into separate settings.
Any additional comments?
LONG TIME GONE is really sweet but does touch on some delicate issues.Do not punish Sandra Brown because you expect it to be a contemporary romance. It was at the time it was written.
