Not What I Expected

Shame on me for not reading the info clearly enough. But when Audible sent an ad saying Sandra Brown had a new novel coming out and it was based on a true story, I jumped. After all, I love the kind of suspense thrillers that she writes, and Audible knows that. So imagine my shock when the audiobook started with a Scottish brogue so thick it took me a bit to curl my mind around it. Further investigation quickly showed me that this was, indeed, a Scottish author named Sandra Brown, not the American thriller writer. Good thing I love a good brogue.

But there were aspects about this case that became engrossing, even maddening, so since I'd already made the erroneous purchase, I listened. To the end. While it's quite a compelling story, I don't feel like it's actually worth 14 hours of my time. A great deal of editing would have made it better in my opinion. But maybe I'm just biased by the fact that I felt a little bit duped. Not by the author, though, who seems to be a very nice lady.

Very disappointed ! Narrator was awful and couldn’t be understood

Disliked the narrator and found myself going back to listen over in order to follow the story line. Sandra Brown is a favorite of mine but missed the mark with this book!

The Author

I’m a longtime fan of Brown, and I think I’ve read most of her books. Her thriller/romance books are intelligently written and planned, containing complex plots with clever resolutions that are very satisfying. This very personal book reveals much of Brown’s childhood through to adulthood as she continues to tackle the horror of sexual abuse of children. She is relentless in her pursuit of justice for child victims, establishing a movement and advocacy for them. Bravo, Sandra, bravo. I’ve always been a fan, and now, even more so.

The suspense was incredible. just when you thought it was going to be revealed, it slipped away. such diligence is commendable.

I feel deceived. This is not Sandra brown that I know. Can I get a refund?

This was a heart wrenching story, told with such love and compassion. This book will forever leave a mark on my heart.
