Publisher's Summary

Meghan Smith has always been a protective mother. Her baby son, Harry, has a life-threatening condition and is never far from her sight. But on the evening of her wedding anniversary, as she and her husband celebrate in the garden with friends, Harry disappears from his cot without a trace.

In an instant, the perfect life she always longed for is in tatters, her family exposed to interrogation and accusation in the glare of media attention. But none of it gets Meghan answers - or brings back her son.

As her life unravels and suspicion takes hold of her sanity, Meghan begins to question everything she once took for granted. Can she trust her husband? Can she trust her friends? Can she even trust herself?

Eh, did not care for this book

This book was just so-so. By the time I got to the end, I didn't care enough to find out what was going on. I don't know if the author meant for Megan to act and sound so stupid, but that bothered me a lot. For example in the beginning when the police came about Harry's kidnapping, they told Megan they were questioning the neighbors, and she says, you think one of my neighbors took Harry? And then acts stupid about why the helicopter came with search lights. She says, you think Harry is in one of my neighbor's back garden? It's like she has NO idea how crimes are solved. She takes FOREVER to see obvious clues. Anyway I am not sure why but the whole story just bored me. I loved the narrator - she did well to portray Megan's worry and fear when her son disappeared. To the author's credit though, I did not guess who the kidnapper was. :-)

Decent read

The plot of this one was pretty decent. The main character's presence at the crime scene was a bit far-fetched, but, it is fiction, after all. This narrator is one of the best around, and that always helps.

I was hooked immediately, could not stop listening

Any additional comments?

Really good book - I consumed it in one sitting. Did not figure it out until the author revealed who, what, when and where in the last three chapters. Also, this book held on to my imagination for a couple of days after I finished listening. I just kept thinking about it. Awesome.

The reader was very good. Her pacing and tone are excellent. She does not make herself the centerpiece - she lets the story shine.

Gripping

This kept me guessing. I almost always figure the end but this surprised me. Particularly captivating for anyone who has been or is a parent! Recommend!

Not worth bothering with.

The main character was just not realistic. The whole thing was too lengthy and unbelievable on so many levels it was boring. Wish I had not wasted my money

it was hard to press pause

thoroughly enjoyable - not sure if at all gripping and perhaps limited in terms of possible suspects, but to be fair I didn't expect the one it was. Hats off to the narrator absolutely brilliantly done. I would without a doubt recommend. Not sure how many kidnapped/missing children books I can do - once you've done one you've more or less done the lot. So glad this was my first pick

Well narrated

This book was well narrated but the story didn’t work for me although I stuck at it. If your baby was kidnapped I think you’d be more traumatised and probably not think of how you fancy your next door neighbour, maybe a teenager would like it.

The locked door..... Are was it???

Any additional comments?

This is the worsed thing that could happen to if your a parent. This book would make me break out in a cold sweat at times, because all you can think about is how you would feel if it happened to one of your kids. You go on this journey with Meghan through the kidnap and the relationships, husband, friends and police.

Disappointing!

I felt the book was too drawn out. There were too many descriptions that took away from the action. The author meant us to think from the beginning that Emily and John were guilty and that Megan was an hysterical crazy woman. Holland could have pursued a better story by turning the plot against her. I skipped chapters to find out who was guilty and why. It was a disappointing ending. John was horrible, Megan was weak, and Treave was the only likeable character, as far as I was concerned. The policeman was a simpleton! I won't read this author again.
