Publisher's summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Lock Every Door written by Riley Sager, read by Stephanie Cannon.

You've been offered a luxury apartment, rent free. The catch: you may not live long enough to enjoy it…

No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents.
These are the only rules for Jules Larson's new job as apartment sitter for an elusive resident of the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile private buildings and home to the super rich and famous.

Recently heartbroken and practically homeless, Jules accepts the terms, ready to leave her past life behind.

Out of place among the extremely wealthy, Jules finds herself pulled toward other apartment sitter Ingrid. But Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems and the dark history hidden beneath its gleaming facade is starting to frighten her. Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story - but the next day, her new friend has vanished.
And then Jules discovers that Ingrid is not the first temporary resident to go missing…

Welcome to the Bartholomew…You may never leave.

Interesting Story Irritating Characters

Very interesting idea, but I found the main female characters so intensely irritating - relentlessly cute and occasionally contemplative only in a way reminiscent of social media updates - that they distracted from the story. To add to the irritation, Ingrid was given such a gratingly childish voice that her disappearance half way through the book was a welcome relief.

What an awesome thriller

Seriously awesome. The narrative voice was diverse and pronounced and the plot was dark, disturbing, and gritty. Great thriller.

Genuinely have no idea who this book is for...

Poorly plotted, badly written, drowning in cliches and stereotypes. I’m mystified as to whom the writer is actually writing for. Teen girls? But surely in this post me too era of social and political activism any self respecting teenage girl would view this as nonsensical twaddle.

Fast paced book that will leave your heart racing!

Great story from Riley Sager, lots of action and nail-biting moments. Not one for the faint-hearted. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, certainly different.

Lighthearted but enjoyable

This isn’t going on my list of life changing books, but it did keep me entertained for a few days, I enjoyed it for what it was - lighthearted mystery with some twists and turns, which kept it interesting

Ripping yarn!

Loved it! Great narration really brought characters to life, great setting as well!. Interesting update on another well known horror story set in an NYC apartment (won't reveal title as may give too much away). Some subtle social commentary as well. Felt pop ace could have been better in some parts but will definitely read more.

Creepy

A bit of a slow start with lots of build up but a very exciting ending with an unexpected twist! I thought I had it figured out and started to get a bit bored but the last few chapters piqued my interest again. Some very dark and scary subject matter got me pretty jumpy in real life!

Excellent Story

Don't often write reviews but felt this one really deserved it. Engaging listen, characters I could admire, sinister story. Well worth my credit

No hotels for me

This is a good read. A little far fetched I think but still a bit of fun. I like the narrator and even coped with the American accent. Might try another one from Riley

Not bad, a good throwaway, light reading story.

Wasn't a big fan of the narrator. I found her voice quite annoying and as if she were attempting to put on a tone that depicted the main character as a kind, sweet, a good girl type vibe. It seemed like she was trying too hard and made it harder to emphasize with the character. I particularly didn't like the way she said "laptop", it just triggered me and she said it so many times.

I found it easy to figure out who the main antagonist was. The plot twist attempted to lead you down one far-fetched pathway, only to reveal it was actually another, probably more far-fetched thing. I found it difficult to believe that rumours of people disappearing wouldn't be enough to rouse suspicion enough for police to intervene much earlier on. I understand this was loosely brushed away by the backgrounds of the selected victims, however if enough people are pointing to a place, you would think some kind of authoritative intervention would have occurred.

There was a huge plot hole related to the main character's family that I would have liked to have seen explored more. The fact that they didn't explore it makes it seem like it was only something they wrote in to spark motivation for the main character's interest in investigating the suspicious behaviour.

It was an okay read but I wouldn't really rave about it.

Enjoyed the story

Overall I enjoyed the story and was drawn into the mystery but the narrator wasn't to my taste using the same cutesy voice for any young female character. I would say it was just a personal preference as opposed to bad reading.

The story was engaging and the twist was good but there were a few moments where I wanted to scream at characters for their lack of common sense of to trust their instincts.

Okay

Narration was very whiny and grating to listen to. The story too far fetched and character behaviours exasperating.

Great read

Loved all the twists and turns in this. I would only listen to it going to and from work and sometimes found myself sitting in the garage wanting to keep listening.

Not worth it.

I had to speed it up a lot to make the protagonist's passive stupidity less painful and the whole thing more suspenseful.

These aspects of her character were highlighted by the narration, which was probably good because it was true to the character, but I still hate all of it.

Why didn't I just return it?

A nice twist at the end

This book really kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happens next, and the twist at the end was no-where near where I thought the book would end up.

My only issue was the narrator, as she did most characters well but some of her voices sounded drugged or like real idiots...or perhaps that was what she was aiming.

Fantastic and full of surprises

Riveting story and performance. Keeps you guessing and listening. Up there in anticipation and twists like The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
