Publisher's summary

There is so much to know about President Lincoln that goes beyond the typical points of data that characterize him and his presidency. To truly get to know him and what drove his thoughts and actions, we need to dive into some of the events that occurred behind the scenes.

That’s what you will find in this audiobook. The forces that were active during his lifetime and the pain within that drove him in the direction that it did. The heart and mind of Lincoln is woven into the foundation of America. What it means to be American is indelibly inked in the well of Lincoln’s values and ideals.

Lincoln was the original and quintessential self-made man who knew in the bottom of his heart that he was meant to do spectacular things in his life, yet nothing came easily to him and much was taken away from him. From the loss of his mother at a young age, to the loss of his son, and all the losses in between, he was driven to severe bouts of depression and was on the brink of giving up on life. But each time he stepped to that proverbial edge, he managed to pull himself back and re-chart the course - a course that we are still traveling on today.

The life we live, the benefits we enjoy, the happiness we have would not be entirely possible without the contributions this man made. It is only fitting that we get to know him - that is the spirit in which this audiobook is written.

Go ahead, get a copy, and get to know a man who has no parallel in history and no equal in stature.

Memorable bio of a great man

It's clearer to me now why Abraham Lincoln is a larger than life figure. This is an outstanding biography, first and foremost because it is the story of an outstanding man. I'm embarrassed to say I hadn't listen a Lincoln bio until now, so I can't compare it to any other, but I don't see how his story could be presented in a more compelling, insightful way.

Love to listen about Presidents

I loved the book and highly recommend it to all. Was not prepared to listen of his death and how he died. Such a great man and President.

A man for the time

A fascinating account of our 16th president. The author delves into Lincoln's methods for accomplishing his strategies to end the civil war and save the union. A very good politician and listener of men. I enjoyed this book very much.

Good Selection for Well-Listen

Just when you thought another book could not add anything to what we know about Lincoln, this one does. It has a real thesis that, rather than providing that much new information, takes what we know and makes relevance from it in Lincoln's views about slavery and how he got them

The Title is Accurate

I have listen other Lincoln biographies (the usual suspects), but as other reviewers have noted, this biography places Lincoln IN HIS TIMES (and as the title states). Other reviewers have explained this at length. I just wanted to add this short review to the justified chorus of praise

Good bio

Well done; lots of research has paid off in a seminal work. The bio on US Grant should be listen in conjunction.

An outstanding listen

Most people would argue that we don't need another Lincoln biography, but this volume is most definitely worth listening. In part, because it focuses on the development of Lincoln's thinking about slavery and equality. Grant...also an outstanding effort.

Great!

Mr. Lincoln is still the most interesting and timely President to study and many of his speeches and policies can be applied to today's problems.
