Publisher's Summary

From a prize-winning and New York Times bestselling author comes a chilling novel of deception under the sun…

Jan needs this. She’s flying to Crete to reunite with friends she met there five years ago and relive an idyllic vacation. Basking in the warmth of the sun, the azure sea, and the aura of antiquity, she can once again pretend - for a little while - that she belongs. Her ex-boyfriend Marcus will be among them, but even he doesn’t know the secrets she keeps hidden behind a veil of lies. None of them really know her, and that’s only part of the problem.

Then again, how well does she know them?

When Jan awakens in utter darkness, chained to a wall, a manacle around her wrist, her echoing screams only give her a sense of how small her cell is. As she desperately tries to reconstruct what happened and determine who is holding her prisoner, dread covers despair like a hand clamped over her mouth. Because, like the Minotaur in the labyrinth in Greek myth, her captor will be coming back for her, and all the lies will catch up to her…

Good ending

I got lost more than a few times trying to follow this book. The start was good & the ending was good but the guts of it kept losing me.

A great psychological or “psychotic” thriller

I loved the way this book was presented- from present to past with each chapter, and the narrator was fantastic. I always knew who was talking even though so many characters. I changed my guess a couple of times as to who the “bad guy” was; and there were a few unexpected surprises ! A great definition comparison about lying and making excuses! I highly recommend it!

I was bored

I kept waiting for it to pick up and get good, but I was bored throughout the whole thing. Maybe it was the story, maybe the narration, maybe the combo. I listened to the whole thing and just never enjoyed it.

Waste of Time

I made it almost through chapter 8 before quitting. While I enjoy the narrator, it was incredibly sloppy writing. After making several seemingly key plot points, the author backtracks and obliterates all trust with a rather lazy "oh yeah I'm a liar" admission from the protagonist. There are enough other good pieces of literature to waste any time on this.

Kept Me Interested

Intriguing story of elites and their fall. Somewhat the story of Ugly Americans in their prime.

Dragon's by

This is one of those books that I kept hoping would get better, I should have ended it half way through. Boring.

Felt like giving up!!

Started well then I began to struggle with the storyline half way through and nearly gave up listening. However I didn't and towards the end, it got me gripped. Narrator was excellent, loved her accents and how she delivered the story.
