Publisher's summary

There’s a Liar in My Bed and a Baby on My Doorstep.

My soldiers threw Charlotte at my feet and told me what she was:
A thief.
A liar.
A sneak.

I chained her in the cell beneath my mansion with a plan to get rid of her at dawn.
But something made me change my mind.

That something?
A little girl arriving on my doorstep, desperate and alone....
With a note in her hand that changes everything.

“This is your daughter.
Her mother is dead.
She’s your responsibility now.”

Now, I need a nanny for the daughter I never knew I had.
Lucky for me, I’ve got the perfect solution....
And she’s locked up in my cellar.

Liar’s Lullaby is the first book in the Mazzeo Mafia duet. Charlotte and Lucio’s story will conclude in Book 2, Sinner’s Lullaby.

Very Good Story

This was really a good book! The main female character started off strong, then she became weak. Her thinking became dumb but over all it was good.

Excellent narration

The narration was excellent. The book was a little too wordy for me.

Not sure….

For starters I wish the male narrator had a deeper voice and the reason she becomes under his thumb is stupid. And since there is a second book I’m undecided if I’m going to return this one or not. It’s not terrible yet but it doesn’t really have that edge a mafia book should have. It’s like it’s too sweet. Most people don’t and won’t talk to the don like she does but I do appreciate her boldness. I’m listening to this again, and my first review is right on. I still feel the same way about the book.

A TANGLED WEB OF BAD MEN & DELICIOUS THRILLS

This Mafia Duet is a meaty 29 hours long and I really enjoyed the ebb and flow of the slow-burning relationship between Lucio, a handsome, sexy, emotionally damaged Mafia Don, and Charlotte, a young, feisty, fearless struggling woman who thought she could skip out on paying her $40 restaurant bill. But, when that restaurant is owned by Don Lucio, it starts off a chain of events neither one saw coming.

Lucio is powerful and focussed entirely on ‘la familia’.. so, when his men bring him a spitfire to deal with, it blackens his mood because he doesn’t like the distraction one bit. Then a six year old girl with the same eyes as his is abandoned on his doorstep with a note saying he’s her father, Lucio thinks he’s got the perfect solution for both distractions and puts the annoying woman locked in his basement to work as his daughter’s live-in nanny. However, the verbal back-and-forth sparring with his fearless prisoner.. the sexual chemistry they could cut with a knife.. the kindness she shows his frightened daughter.. and the unwanted growing attraction and respect he has for Charlotte slowly dismantles Lucio’s walls brick by stubborn brick. But, the coming war with the Polish Mafia is escalating fast.. the FBI is trying to take Lucio down.. Charlotte’s big bad secrets will be found out.. and they each have people in their pasts who are also going to stir things up and strike deadly blows. And, I can assure you, that all those things are going to cause some major problems, the danger and tension is going to bubble and the suspense and drama is going to explode in betrayal and bloodshed.

Ok, so the base of the story is unbelievable.. the crime of skipping out on a $40 bill is not punished by being dragged off, chained and locked-up in a Don’s basement awaiting his life or death decision.. and then to be used as the Don’s unpaid live-in nanny.. nope totally unbelievable. However, if you can get over the unbelievable bits (and let’s face it, these books are pure fiction), then the fast-paced story, with its wicked banter, really picks up in intensity.. especially in the cataclysmic and climactic Book 2. There’s action, drama and suspense.. passion, attraction and sexy steam.. tension, lies and bombshells.. devastation, betrayal and multi-directional friction as the cast of complex characters war with themselves, war with past demons, war with each other and stumble when shadows strike. And there’s a sweet six year old who slowly becomes her daddy’s world.. but she’s also an innocent pawn caught up in two wars.. the Mafia war she was born into and the love-hate war of two lost souls.

Worth a credit? Yes, it’s an enjoyable, exciting, entertaining, action-packed dual POV rollercoaster Duet that never dulls despite its flaws. The push n pull of an attraction neither one wanted is a delicious sexy slow-burn that had me rooting for their happily ever after. The narration is great too.

Too drawn out in places

In an attempt to turn this into two books, the author has allowed the story to drag in places. By the end I was desperate for it to move forward.

I even contemplated not reading the second book but eventually relented.

Did Not Finish

Normally I really like this author’s work, but I couldn’t get through this particular book. I’ve listened for more than two hours and I couldn’t care less about the characters or the storyline. Particularly with this genre, my goal is entertainment. If a book has failed to hook me after eleven chapters, I’m moving on to something else. Disappointed that I can’t return this one.
