Publisher's Summary

Common - the Grammy Award, Academy Award, and Golden Globe-winning musician, actor, and activist - follows up his New York Times best-selling memoir One Day It’ll All Make Sense with this inspiring exploration of how love and mindfulness can build communities and allow you to take better control of your life through actions and words. Common’s warm and rousing narration is accompanied by music written and performed exclusively for this audiobook.

Common believes that the phrase “let love have the last word” is not just a declaration; it is a statement of purpose, a daily promise. Love is the most powerful force on the planet and ultimately, the way you love determines who you are and how you experience life.

Touching on God, self-love, partners, children, family, and community, Common explores the core tenets of love to help others understand what it means to receive and, most important, to give love. He moves from the personal - writing about his daughter, to whom he wants to be a better father - to the universal, where he observes that our society has become fractured under issues of race and politics. He knows there's no quick remedy for all of the hurt in the world, but love - for yourself and for others - is where the healing begins.

Courageous, insightful, brave, and characteristically authentic, Let Love Have the Last Word shares Common’s own unique and personal stories of the people and experiences that have led to a greater understanding of love and all it has to offer. It is a powerful call to action for a new generation of open hearts and minds, one that is sure to resonate for years to come.

Heartfelt and Beautifully Done

I haven’t read many memoirs, so I was a little skeptical at first. However, Common’s memoir was beautifully told and his narration was the cherry on top.

His anecdotes and observations touched a nerve, and I looked forward to each day when I could listen and take in his story.

I gift books often, and this one has been added to the list!

LOVE

Common is courageous, transparent, and vulnerable in his journey/exploration of family love, romantic love, self love, and spiritual love. He addresses past traumas, therapy and his journey to healing - challenging his audience to do the same. His narration adds a level of intensity/passion, reinforcing his message of love and giving his listeners all the feels.

Good message

Great message and definitely had some gems. Especially with me being a father of a daughter who is battling the very same issues with my 11 year old. As I said it was overall a good book, but the delivery had me kind of confused at times. It was like he was drifting off on side thoughts and the stories were never finished which caused me to be lost in the message he was trying to give at certain points

Common is a preeminent artist & man of courage. His journey from Can I Borrow a Dollar (circa 1992) to present day has been a beautiful journey into manhood in its truest sense. Let Love Have the Last Word is a journey towards love, raw courage, trials & triumphs.

It’s a must read for everyone seeking to find beauty in the struggle. Common’s artistic voyage gives us insight on how LOVE is the ultimate win. Read it, share it & live it. Love should always have the last word.

Wasn't what I expected

I really like Common so I was really looking forward to hearing about his life and experiences. Common gives you a bit of that but its all wrappes up in a huge love bow. Everything he talks about is literally from the perspective of love, the different ways we can interpret love and how to apply love in our lives. His narration is interesting, if not a bit dry. Not a bad listen if you are interested in being a kinder more loving person.

A New Look @ "LOVE"

I really enjoyed this book, I especially enjoyed how transparent Rashid is. His Stories showed me another side of him, a deeper more personal side. He took some genuine risks by discussing his relationship with his daughter, some trauma early on and the push for mental health and seeking the resources to be mentally ok. His readings voice is like an old friend sharing their stories. All I can say is... I enjoyed it..

So Raw!

Wow! He explored the intricacies of love in a very raw way. The act of loving and being loved... the vastness of it! I definitely recommend!

Deep

After seeing Common on Ted Table Talk, I was drawn to this book. Not much of a reader, I opted to listen to it. And I think listening to Common actually makes this book even better. Such a great and powerful, deep interpretation of “Love”.

Love, Love, Love Rules The Day

I love Common's voice and have for some years now. It was great hearing him give life to his words of love wisdom. Being a better father, son, public speaker and lover were not always easy for him...and he's still growing, as we all are. Great advice to anyone who is in a space of growth and healing. Loved that he disclosed that he sees a therapist regularly. Our brothers need to hear this. Get your mental health checked and often. Great listen. Do not hesitate to buy this book! One love...
