A New England poet, Walt Whitman, is considered to be a strange transcendentalist and sexual deviant. His love spreads to boys and men. But he has grown old and tired, having been a general, a pope, and a king a few times. He asks his lady for a lover with whom to end his days. But she doesn’t answer. He writes a poem about his feelings that makes his name last forever.
