Enchanting

This was an enchanting and enjoyable twist on the Sword and the Stone. Alena would like nothing more than to have peace and see everyone equal, however as she soon realizes life is not that simple. I thought the author did a good job of presenting this side of a popular story. I really liked Liam, the stable boy who became Alena’s friend and ally, in this story. I thought his character added a lot to the storyline. The story definitely left me wanting more. Sarah L. Colton did a fabulous job with all the voices and emotions needed in the story. #AudiobookObsessionReviewer

Queen Arthur?

This first Book would be better served at 1/2 the length and labeled as a prologue. Basically, Nothing happens except the obvious, she pulls the Sword from the Stone. Otherwise, it is mostly the insipid internal dialogue of Alena, the future "Queen Arthur." You would think this retelling would be an empowerment message to girls/women, not so with this wishy-washy "heroine" who can't make a decision regardless of all that's laid before her. Very disappointing.

Loved every minute!

I loved this one so much!! I am a sucker for anything King Arthur related and this was so well done! I think fans of Kiersten White's Conqueror's Saga would really love this book. The narration was great and I loved the characters. I received a free copy for review.

If King Arthur had been a girl.

This story was a fun retelling of King Arthur and the Sword in the Stone. But an orphaned girl who is a maid pulls the sword from the stone.

The author creates a new world that you get sucked into. The narrator does an amazing job bringing the story to life.

It did take me while to get sucked into the story but once the back story has been established I was sucked in!

I can't wait to read what happens next.

Loved it! A great story of a young woman, who goes through life as a servant. Then her life changes! Narrator was good!

This is a fantastic tale of discovering who you are and the narrator brings to life the characters of the story and it’s a fun story that keeps you interested all the way and I can’t wait for more

Twist On Arthurian Legend

This book is a new twist on an Arthurian legend where a sword determines the true queen rather than the true king of the country. It was creative and entertaining; however, I felt that the author spent too much time dwelling on the emotions and thoughts of Alena, the protagonist, and not enough description of the actions taking place in the story. Sarah L Colton's narration is fine. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

How to Stand

A reenvisioned tale of 'The Sword in the Stone". Nicole really took this tale by the hilt and delivered well in her telling as accompanied with Sarah bringing the characters to life.

If King Arthur was a female

Alena is a maid in a Duke's household. She is full of herself believing that all people should be treated the same. This does not endear her to the other servants in the household. Knights are fighting in a tournament and she is tasked with tending to one of the contestants. He has need of a sword and Alena rushes to retrieve one lest he go into the combat less one. She sees the sword in the stone (knowing nothing of its value) pulls it out. The rest of the story revolves around Alena and her people. I was given a free copy of this book at my request and this is my honest review.

Addictive story

This is a rather unusual story with its basis on the sword in the stone but with some major twists. Very interesting.

a good start to a possibly great epic. I'm still waiting for the next book...

I love this idea. The concept of a female Arthur.
I could see the similarities with this book and The Sword in the Stone and loved it.
Can’t wait to dig into book 2 and 3! 😍

A retelling of a favourite legend

If you like fair tales then this story is for you. It will grab you till the end. It’s a retelling of a favourite, King Arthur but instead of a King it’s the retailing of the legand but from Alena point of view . Alena is missable as a maid , she’s mistreated by the lords , and squires until she finds the strength to she finds her worth .
Sarah Colton performance was very strong, she did the tones great. Her voice is smooth and strong

Brilliant

I love retellings and this was great. This retelling of The Sword in the Stone which I read when I was a child. There were twists on it though. We have a girl removing the sword from the stone, Alena. She could be Queen by removing the sword, but there are challenges in her way. It flowed so well and the character and the world-building was just how I would have imagined it to be in that day.
I need to know more though as I was captivated. Bring on the second in the series!

Good world building

The author did a great job building a pretty amazing world around the character that really fits. Unfortunately, it seems there is always something negative going on or in her mood. Cool concept/plot idea. Really liked the blurb and was excited for the book but it fell through on a whole. The narrator did a good job giving life to the main character.

Combination of Robin Hood and Sword in the Stone

Alena is not satisfied with her life and refuses to give herself wholly to being just a maid. When she accidentally pulls a magic sword from a stone, her whole life changes and she discovers that there is a lot more to her story than she ever knew.
While she doesn't agree with the way things are and continues to fight back for her own rights, she also seems to scorn anyone else who has aspirations for a better life. There are quite a lot of contradictions in the book and I found the olden days language seemed a bit forced.
I really like the idea for the story with the combination of Robin Hood and Sword in the Stone. I hope there will be more about Alena's friend Liam in future books.
In terms of the narration, I felt like the accents were all over the place.

Arthurian Legend Twist

I received a free review copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Legend was an enjoyable listen and a novel take on the King Arthur legend. I thought the narrator did an amazing job with this story and all the characters, the British accent was great and was in keeping with the setting of the story and the origin of the legend. Overall the story was mysterious and intriguing with some action and twists along the way, a solid start to The Queenmaker Series.

To the Queen

This was a fairy tale based similar to the tale of King Arthur. Instead of the poor boy getting the sword from the stone, it was the maid and she became queen. In this story we have the Queen Maker that replaced Excalibur and Merlin had been replaced by a female magic worker. This was a good twisted to the legend of King Arthur and I enjoyed the narrator Sarah L. Colton.
