The United States is ready to make a triumphant return to the moon, striking out boldly into the solar system in an attempt to regain the confidence of the heady days of the Apollo program. But a shocking discovery at Shackleton Crater brings the first Prometheus mission to an abrupt halt. Remote robots have uncovered human skeletal remains - and forensic analysis at NASA reveals the corpse to be over 700 million years old. As the news of this discovery is leaked across the universe - and a battle rages over the truth of our heritage - the Event Group is tasked to unravel the mystery behind this ancient visitor. Colonel Jack Collins once again leads a team of the world's greatest scientists and philosophers on a journey that will take the Event Group into the realm of space and confront one of humanity's most pressing questions: Could something - or someone - else be coming to finish a war that began almost a billion years ago?

Why did this come out after Overlord?? Otherwise another great Event group novel. Richard Poe is great as ever. The story keeps you going even though if you have overlord you know the ending kinda.

Great book but out of order

I had read all the others but somehow missed this one. Hard to pick a favorite Event Group adventure but Legacy is on the short list. As other reviewers have said... I choked up a bit at the end too.

I don't know what genre this is I just know I enjoy the High Adventures. Yes... there are predicable elements in each story and I'm fine with that. Yes... the adventures stretch the limits of reality... which is one of the reasons I enjoy them so.

As for the reviewers that pan this book, I bet we disagree on many other subjects too. PLEASE WRITE FASTER MR GOLEMON!

Almost a "binge read". It's THAT good!

The Ripper was my least favorite in this series this was my second least favorite but in all this is my favorite series of books

Not my favorite

(2) of the baddest and most capable soldiers on Earth in Col. Collins and Capt. Everett but by the time we get to this book they are nothing more than bumbling idiots chasing bad guys around but not really DOING anything. On top of that, they continually get caught in bad positions after making bad choices (boy soldiers make this mistakes not battle-hardened soldiers).

It's pretty frustrating.

Ellenshaw and Goulding do more in this book than just about anybody, which is cool to see, but come on it's like checking out on (2) of your most important characters.

Seeing Ryan, Sarah, and Mendenhall kinda break out into their own stride is really nice to see though.

What's happening to Col. Jack Collins?

Listening to Legacy (as opposed to previously having read it), I found the story to be even more engrossing and emotional (especially at the end). I found myself using a few tissues to mop up the tears. I especially love the romance between Sarah and Jack, and hope this continues.

Brilliant as always
