Book 1 in the 12-book series that has sold over 63 million copies!

On a Boeing 747 headed to London, passengers instantaneously disappear from their seats, resulting in terror and chaos for those left behind—not only throughout the plane, but also worldwide as the apocalypse begins.

Filled with edge-of-your-seat suspense and a dash of romance, The Left Behind series covers the events of biblical prophecy surrounding the end times, encompassing the rapture and the seven-year period known as the tribulation that follows.

I’m not sure why all this was removed

Buck couldn't wait to talk to his friends in Illinois, but he didn't want to call from
his office or his apartment, and he didn't know for sure whether his cellular phone
was safe. He packed his stuff and took a cab to the airport, asking the cabbie to stop
at a pay phone a mile outside the terminal.
Not getting an answer at the Steele's', he dialed the church. Bruce answered and told
him Chloe and Rayford were there. “Put them on the speakerphone,” he said. “I'm
taking the three o'clock American flight to O'Hare. But let me tell you this:
Carpathia is your man, no question. He fills the bill to the last detail. I felt your
prayers in the meeting. God protected me. I'm moving to Chicago, and I want to be
a member of, what did you call it, Bruce?”
“The Tribulation Force?”
“That's it!”
“Does this mean—?” Chloe began.
“You know exactly what it means,” Buck said. “Count me in.”
“What happened, Buck?” Chloe asked.
“I'd rather tell you about it in person,” he said. “But have I got a story for you! And
you're the only people I know who are going to believe it.”
When his plane finally touched down, Buck hurried up the let way and through the
gate where he was joyously greeted by Chloe, Bruce, and Rayford Steele. They all
embraced him, even the staid captain. As they huddled in a corner, Bruce prayed,
thanking God for their new brother and for protecting him.
They moved through the terminal toward the parking garage, striding four abreast,
arms around each other's shoulders, knit with a common purpose. Rayford Steele,
Chloe Steele, Buck Williams, and Bruce Barnes faced the gravest dangers anyone
could face, and they knew their mission.
The task of the Tribulation Force was clear and their goal nothing less than to stand
and fight the enemies of God during the seven most chaotic years the planet would ever see

But otherwise it was good

It's definitely worth reading the novel via a physical copy or a e-reader. I also loved the world building in this book.

I read this series as a teenager that grew up "in church". moving through the daily do's and don'ts this series impacted my Christian life and relationship with Christ. I am now in my late 40'S and am yet again being impacted in an all new way in my adult Christian life. I recommend Highly.

very timely a must read

This was a reread from a series that I read many, many years ago. I'm not sure what prompted me to start reading book one again (and in the middle of the Christmas season), but I should have known that once I started, I was going to keep going and continue on with the series. I've always had a problem with needing to finish what I start - even if it is something that I've read before.

This series takes us on a journey as the world experiences the loss of millions of people at the same moment. Certain people just disappeared, with the bodies leaving, but their clothes dropping into a pile where they had just been. There was not a rhyme nor reason for the type of people that disappeared, with the exception of ALL of the children under 12 years of age. Even with this happening all over the world, and many of these events caught on tape - the world still can not come to a consensus of WHY? What was the reason for the disappearance? What caused this?

There were many theories - from alien encounters, to electromagnetic frequencies, to of course, the Rapture.

We begin to follow several characters, but the main character is Rayford Steele - a commercial pilot who is flying a plane over the Atlantic Ocean when things begin. One of his passengers on the plane - Cameron “Buck” Williams - is a famous journalist and the two of them are both thrown into this new world - each coming from different circumstances. Ray is quicker to understand the real reason that he has been Left Behind while Buck is looking at things from many different perspectives.

This initial book begins to set the stage and introduce us to the characters that we are going to be following for the next several books.
