The first course in this box set is "Learn Language - Introduction to Language". This audiobook will take you through the basics of French with "Basic Bootcamp", "All About", and "Pronunciation" lessons. The five "Basic Bootcamp" lessons each center on a practical, real-life conversation. At the beginning of the lesson, we'll introduce the background of the conversation. Then, you'll hear the conversation two times: One time at natural native speed and one time with English translation. After the conversation, you'll learn carefully selected vocabulary and key grammar concepts. Next, you'll hear the conversation one time at natural native speed. Finally, practice what you have learned with the review track. Repeat the words and phrases you hear in the review track aloud to practice pronunciation and reinforce what you have learned.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your My Library section along with the audio.

Love the program, hate the choice of lessons

I recognize the program from a podcast I listen to, a very good one. The narrators are excellent and informative, and I've always wanted to purchase more of their lessons.

However, when it comes to the lessons Innovative Language Learning chose to include in this "ultimate getting started" box set, I was very disappointed.

A huge chunk of these 55 lessons (I'd say somewhere around ~20, very rough guess) don't actually include ANY lessons on speaking French, but rather information like French pop culture icons, French politics, etc. The program starts off well with lessons about pronunciation and grammar, then for some bizarre reason all you end up learning is how French government works etc.

This isn't "Learning French"--it's helpful but it's not at all what was advertised.

Disappointment

What disappointed you about Learn French: Ultimate Getting Started with French Box Set, Lessons 1-55?

If you want to learn how to speak English with a rather cute French accent, this is the audiobook for you, but if you want to start your journey learning to speak French this wiil not help you much. After 13 chapters I have learnt to greet and to count and have had to listen to dialogue in English; interesting snippets about France and French society but nothing to set my on the road to SPEAKING French.

Would you ever listen to anything by Innovative Language Learning again?

Yes, perhaps the advanced lessons are better.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of the narrator?

Narrators are fine, if only they spoke more French.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Learn French: Ultimate Getting Started with French Box Set, Lessons 1-55?

The long English dialogues.

Any additional comments?

Really not enough FRENCH text.

Not a good language referrence

They spend lots of time talking about France, pop culture, and food. Almost 40% of the content was small talk.

Excellent Language Course for the Audible Audience

Where does Learn French: Ultimate Getting Started with French Box Set, Lessons 1-55 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's the best French audio course I have ever taken.

Any additional comments?

This course is designed for people looking to learn French, but who need to do this primarily via audio. While the instruction guide is very good, they do an excellent job of teaching the content effectively through the audio instruction, giving the listener essential vocabulary that is spoken at both the speed of a native speaker and a slower speed the learner can digest. Excellent job!

Great easy lessons that are easy to follow!

If you could sum up Learn French: Ultimate Getting Started with French Box Set, Lessons 1-55 in three words, what would they be?

Great for beginners and intermediate speakers. Great way to review stuff you learned previously or learn for the first time. Very clear and well done/

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it would be too much to take in if you tried to do it all in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

My only issue was that not all words in the dialogues are reviewed. I would have preferred that every word and phrase be dissected and explained.

Good Introduction to French

Would you listen to Learn French: Ultimate Getting Started with French Box Set, Lessons 1-55 again? Why?

Yes. I found it very useful. I haven't studied French for many years, and this helped me to quickly re-learn much that I had forgotten, and more.

What did you like best about this story?

The story covered many situations that a visitor would encounter.

What about the narrator’s performance did you like?

Pleasant conversation. Serious, informative and playful at times - not overly so.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Does really apply...

There is content, but TOTALY disorganized..

I am so tempted to return this. There seems to be a lot of material, but completely disorganised. Whole audio chapters repeated. Even the PDF file is a big blob. It is 487 pages long with no Table of contents. It does have a long list of Book Marks, but only one or two of the Book Marks links work. how can this be so hard ?

update: after getting used to how it is laid out, i am finding this useful. the 25 or so lessons with conversations are very very good. i have picked up a lot from them. Note- I am taking these lessons after completing Paul Nobel's lesson, which gave a very strong foundation.

Not what I was looking for

If you are interested in learning about French culture and listening to two people flirt in English for a few hours with a tiny bit of language then this is for you.

If you want to learn to speak and understand French there are much better products around such as the Collins French series and the Michel Thomas series.

Yadda Yadda get on with it will yer...

Chit chat and pod cast magazine style got a bit slow after a while.

I was keen to learn conversation and actually get to grips with things. This was a frothy Magazine format that deals as much with the relationship between the presenters, as it did with the language.

I guess it's more of an introduction to the French culture and entry point language for a distant US audience, I live more local to France and know they like to strike and eat snails, I didn't need a nice American man to be surprised at the very notion. Apart from the political insecurities of right wing America I didn't dislike the book but just lost patience waiting for the language learning to start.

I apologise if this is much later in the book as I didn't get to the end, life is too short, I just want to go to France and it would be nice to say a few words.

Good start

The couse is very good, the only thing I found uncomfortable is that there are some sentences you are supposed to repeat that are too long, they should brake them in pieces. For the rest it is an excellent course.

TOO MUCH SMALL TALK AND FRIENDLY CHIT CHAT

What would have made Learn French: Ultimate Getting Started with French Box Set, Lessons 1-55 better?

so much small talk. Amazingly frustrating. The american guy grates after about 1 minute and it becomes fairly torturous.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of the narrator?

ANYONE.

Any additional comments?

TRY PAUL NOBLE.

Excellent language course and cultural information

The course is thorough, professional, enjoyable and informative. I particularly appreciated the relevant and challenging conversational dialogues, the explicit, slow, repeated pronunciation and the clear and concise grammatical explanations. The language notes, which accompany the course, look very good. I will be studying these too. I also enjoyed the natural, friendly and fun interaction between the presenters. I would very much recommend this course to others learning French.
