Anybody could buy a Rolex or a Cadillac. The real bling of the day was privately chartered airplanes. Kimber C. Turner pulls back the curtain on a 30-year career in aviation with his unique style of humor and storytelling. Captain Turner is a retired airline pilot with over 18,000 hours of flight time and a former radio talk-show host. Now he is out of the sky and off of the air. In his retirement, Kimber C. Turner does some voiceover work and an occasional guest spot on the radio. He also writes a book now and then.©2015 Kimber C. Turner (P)2015 Kimber C. I should taken a cue from the title, since the book is all about layovers instead of flying.

Disappointed.

The short stories are well written and demand a second or third read to relive these cherry picked moments that really show the ups and downs of the airline and charter business. I loved how it was written and was left hungry for more.

Wish it was longer

If you are thinking of getting this title because of your love of aviation, shoot a missed approach and divert to another field. There is only one, very short anecdote in this book that is an aviation story. The rest of it is about places to stay and eat in NYC, Houston, the Bahamas, etc. and famous people he has met while flying. It bored the crud out of me. If it had been longer than an hour and twenty minutes, I would likely have bailed out and never finished it. If I were stuck at a dinner table, being forced to listen to someone tell these stories, I would make several very long trips to the bathroom, claiming that something I ate earlier in the day had not agreed with me. Bingo.

not an aviation book
