An enthralling and enlightening novel.

I read a newspaper review of this novel that complained that there was little plot. How narrow the critic’s view of plot! Richard Price—one of the best of our novelists—has intertwined the stories of characters we care about… and we care about what obstacles they need to overcome. That IS plot. This novel made me laugh, made me cry, made me think. And the narration is just superb.

Excellence of the voice actors and brilliant dialogue

Multiple characters and frequent shifts in point of view. Price is a master. It would be difficult to follow if not in an audible format

The message was great

This was an excellent lesson & I love the path the author brought us to get there.

Good read

Nice character development! Was a bit slow at times so I felt it was taking place over a longer period of time but very enjoyable.

Realness of characters

I would have liked Anthony to be the real deal. But this book is not about happy endings.

Compelling topic!

The characters were nicely developed in the novel, and were intertwined effectively. However, the in the audio book, the scene changes were hard to detect, due to the lack of pauses between scenes. I rewound several times to ensure I recognized the different characters from the previous section. The actors however, portrayed an authentic NYC vibe!

A sordid and sad tale

After about 3 hours of listening I decided to not subject myself to any more. Perhaps there is some redemption later in the book but, for me, it isn’t worth wading through the muck to find out. These are a group of narcissistic characters who are mostly unable to interact as mature humans. Most of their interactions are confrontational. It is a pathetic commentary on our society.

Did not hold together

I tried, I really tried.. I wanted to but could not adapt to his writing style . After 8 hours, I could not listen to any more .. wish I had read more about the author before I bought the book .. I appreciate what he’s trying to do, but it just not for me ..

Not his best work.

Too much talking by boring people. Nothing happens. Blah, blah, blah.
His earlier works were far better.
