Great stories

I’ve only read a quarter of the stories in the collection so far but I always love Elmer Kelton and his short stories are as great as his novels.
I can only hope audible will record and release his other three collections of short stories on audio. The stories are varied in length and subject but the characters he writes about always seem so real.
Look for his other collections ‘Hard ride’ ‘Wild west’ and ‘The cowboy way’. I do hope they get recorded for audio some day. The narrator does a good job as well in all the stories here.

Update 01/26

This is a great collection. I enjoyed every story, however two of them had similar outcomes and the overall story was similar. Biscuit for a bandit and relic had similar ideas themes and even endings. Apache patrol dragged a bit for me too. Overall a great collection by Mr Kelton.

Love Elmer Kelton

Enjoyed them all but be sure and read to the end. Best was the last, more time to develop the characters. Glad these short stories were preserved by the Greatest Texas western story teller that ever lived because he was born and raised on ranch!

True Western Stories

Don’t get me wrong, I love westerns, and I like some Elmer Kelton, but these stories are closer to those black and white Dyme-A-Duzin westerns that we watched as we were kids. If that’s what you’re after this is it. But Lonesome Dove it ain’t. And it’s definitely not sea of grass.

Pretty cheesy
