Publisher's Summary

Emma Sanders has always dreamt of being a bride, wearing fancy gowns, pretty pearls, and - of course - falling madly in love. Then life happened. Finding herself one fiancé short of her happily ever after, she leaves the fairytales behind. Some days are simply too perilous for pink gowns and pearls.

Riley Lockhart is the sort of man who can make a woman lower her gaze with only a smile. That he doesn't realize his charm makes him all the more enchanting. Determined to save Emma the pain of her breakup, he steps in as a friend, but soon finds himself wanting more.

She was just a girl, but she somehow winds up being the strongest woman he's ever known. Losing her is not an option and when life can't be tied neatly in a pretty little bow, he holds tight to all that he loves most in this world - his Emma. His hero.

Sometimes the greatest scars are worn on the inside.

A Beautiful Story & Listen🎧Compelling & Heartfelt

Wow, this book just blew me away, it is a beautifully written and told story that captivated both my attention and my heart from start to end. Lydia Michaels is a gifted author, she created complex characters and storylines that are realistic, easy to related to and connect with. I adored the lead characters in this book, this is mainly Emma Sanders and Riley Lockhart’s story but his sister Rarity is a big part of their story as well. The three are roommates in a loft apartment in NYC, Riley, his sister Rarity and her best friend Emma. Emma’s fiancé, Becket Grayson, breaks her heart when he tells her he is in love with someone else. Rarity had to leave for a job but she told Riley to keep an eye on Emma who was all torn up. Riley was not thrilled about that but he wound up being the perfect person to keep her busy and distract her from her sorrow and heartbreak. I loved these two together, loved the friendship they built and how they bonded, they were great together and for each other. And when life throws curve balls Emma’s way he became her rock, sure it was not easy but got the strength and determination to not only be by her side but to give her the strength she needed. This is one beauty of a book, the story is flows naturally and is well plotted and includes many momentous moments. There is plenty of drama, heartfelt and emotional moments, in this book, as well as a wonderful romance. Lydia Michaels, thank you for this amazing story and the emotional rollercoaster ride. 🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Brian Callanan is a fabulous narrator and versatile voice artist. He brings the characters to life, giving each their own distinct voice, making it easy to follow along and who is who. His portrayal of the characters is spot on, grasping each of their personas and playing their roles with perfection. You could hear how much heart he puts into his work as he captures the characters emotions and projects them into into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and talented voice artist. Thank you for another awesome listen 🎧 Thank you 🎧@AudiobookObsession #AudiobookObsession #AudiobookObsessionReviewer🎧

Wow!

I’ve just recently discovered Lydia Micheals and I am so glad I did. I’ve read 3 very different types of books by her and every single one has been amazing! I think this one is my favorite though. My mom had Breast Cancer when I was 12 and she was in her mid 30’s. So although I have that close connection to family dealing with it. I feel like this book really helped me understand what she went threw on a much deeper level. I am so thankful for the insight this book brings beyond the beautiful love story. Riley has become my #1 book boyfriend of all time.❤️ This book was so well written. And the Narrative was spot on! Definitely worth a credit or coin!!

Beautiful story of love

What a beautiful, poignant story of love, devotion, despair. Life throws a curveball at the one person Riley found to spend the rest of his life with. His determination to keep Emma happy, He continually lets her know how much she is loved every day. How beautiful and strong she is. This story has laugh out loud moments, tender loving moments, and feelings of hopelessness. Brian Callanan  is a phenomenal narrator. He brings depth to each character. I can feel each moment of emotion, anguish, anger, torment, throughout the story. Thank you for bringing this story to life. 🎧audiobookobsessionVreviewer🎧

Beautiful, more than just a romance

Wow, this was unexpected. This story is much more than a romance but rather, a slice of life detailing some of the most difficult times for Emma and Riley. There were really funny parts (the banter between Emma and Riley was fantastic) but overall, this is a poignant story that showcases how a respectful and loving relationship can overcome some of the darkest times a person can face. There is an illness that the couple need to overcome and the unraveling of the impact of the illness both physically and mentally was beautifully done- I spent my time living in this fictional world with the couple, hoping against hope that the author gives them the gift of good news. I loved the couple and the supporting characters and really, their pain and happiness became mine while listening to this book. I listened to the audiobook and while I would have preferred both a male and female narrator, I have to say, that Brian Callanan surprised me with how well he represented all the characters. He did a pretty much flawless job infusing his role with emotion and I loved his narration. Well done! 🎧AudiobookObsession, AudiobookObsessionReviewer

Whoa...emotional

This is the first book I've read/listened to by Lydia Michaels. I was not expecting this emotional story. It hit on a lot of areas in life where I was able to personally relate with the characters. It has it's corny, humorous side. At times I rolled my eyes in the beginning. I thought I was going to have to endure some immature writing. Then I found myself giggling and flat out laughing out loud! I loved how Emma and Riley bantered with each other. But the heartaches and pain were deep and real. First, Emma endured a broken engagement. Then her best friend, Rarity's, disappointment in Emma getting involved with her brother, and all that entailed. Then Emma had to deal with Riley and Rarity's horrible parents, and lastly, cancer. The drama was constant. The author touched on both sides of cancer treatment...chemo/radiation and a more natural approach. Well done. But in warning about the chemicals in today's products, I felt the story was put aside and lecturing took over a couple times. (Although I agree with what was said!!!) The cheesy part at the beginning and the lecturing is why I end up giving the story 3.5 stars. I honestly think that this was a wonderful story with a sweet and satisfying HEA! Brian Callanan did a great job as narrator. His performance was emotional and he brought the characters to life. Incredible performance. #AudiobookObsessionReviewer

a must listen

I picked up this book because I love Mr. Callanan's voice and I am glad I did.
It starts out like any other story, character intros, showing the dynamics between the main characters. I was zoning out a bit in the beginning at the very detailed scenes, BUT... am I glad the author did that because the twist in the story is major, I mean life-altering major, I did not expect and what happens after is very detailed and eye-opening for somebody who has not gone thru that. It is about love, loyalty, friendship, family, what it means to have those when you need them the most. The book has crazy LOL moments, steamy dirty-talk scenes, and tear jerker ones too.
It ends well, but have tissues ready. Emma and Riley's wows are just beautiful, the nicknames for each other cracked me up. It put me thru the emotional wringer, but OH SO WORTH IT !!!
I think this is the best I heard so far from Mr. Callanan. He outdid himself in every way, the various voices, the emotions, the passionate delivery made this an enjoyable experience.

“I’m Pink”

“I’m pink” has to be my favorite line in the entire book. Lydia really hit it out of the park with this book. She hit on so many of the ‘overlooked’ struggles when dealing with that dreaded c word. I absolutely love how she made this into a beautiful romance, but the real story has so much more depth. It really has to be my favorite book of all time! Emma discovers her feelings for Riley as he is helping her through a break up of a five year relationship. Riley is not only Emma’s roommate, but her best friends brother! Riley really shows growth and strength that a partner in life needs and I love his love for ‘old school ways!’ Brain does a süperb job with the narrative, really bringing this story to life. 🎧AudiobookObsessionReviewer

Another narrator for female character please

I hear such good things about this book but just don’t think that listening to it is the best option for me. The narrator’s female voice is not cool at all. It sounds like when someone tries too hard or is making fun of a girls voice. I just can’t get past it to continue past the first 20%.

Gut wrenching brilliance

This book has all the feels. As a cancer survivor myself this book hit me hard. Lydia, thank you so much for writing such a honest emotional account of this process. You have captured not only the sad emotional turmoil of this situation but you have also shown the grit and determination of this wonderful woman and her support system. With excellent laugh out loud moments Brian gives a fantastic performance. #audiobookobsessionreviewer

Beautifully unexpected

What did you like most about La Vie en Rose: Life in Pink?

The characters were believable, and likeable from the outset.
The balance of emotions was perfect.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Riley was hilarious. At first impression he seems like an overgrown manchild, but as the story unfolds, and his relationship with Emma progresses we see a very different side to him. He's the kind of man you'd love to have in your life.

Have you listened to any of Brian Callanan’s other performances? How does this one compare?

This was my first, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and my next audiobook is also narrated by Brian.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. Aside from the fact that it's over 13 hours long, it's also a very emotional read. I was glad to have breaks from listening so I could absorb the details before returning for more.

Any additional comments?

I had no idea what this story would be, but I was completely enthralled from the start.

The things that happen to Emma alter her life beyond recognition, and the way her story is told is so real and emotive that I actually had to stop listening for a while to absorb it all.

The story is 3rd person POV and Brian Callanan's narration is spot on for every character.

A beautiful story which was a pleasure to listen to.
