Publisher's summary

Stories tell of great fire-breathing beasts large as castles, fierce and deadly, capable of magicks that no human can match. The Kingdom of Kentaine once allied itself with the dragons of old, but eventually, the dragons were lost to time and fell into legend.

Sir Gawain, First Knight of the Realm, is tasked by his older sister the Queen to travel to the edges of their kingdom, where a beast is flaming villagers and has the locals ready to form a mob and hunt it down themselves. His mission is to find the dragon, stop the violence, and do what he needs to maintain the peace.

His journey puts him in the heart of a confrontation with the dragon, but instead of saving the villagers, it is the dragon that needs rescuing. Zephyr, a fire dragon and an escaped slave, needs protection, time to heal, and a chance at a life full of hope.

Gawain can do no less than offer his sword, his shield, and his heart. Evil is hunting Zephyr, and it will not stop until it has reclaimed its prize.

Beyond the legends lies the truth, and love, like fire, consumes everything it touches.

Contains mature themes.

can't get enough!

Once again S.J. Himes and Joel Leslie make an amazing combination.
I've been waiting with bated breath for this book and am just as in love with the audio as I am the original book.
Zephyr is absolutely adorable and such a sweetheart.
Joel as always, does an excellent job of bringing everyone to life. I'm crossing my fingers for a sequel in the hopefully near future.

Brings new meaning to Dragon Rider

Not really raunchy - more sweet. I enjoyed it. A light little MM romance fairy tale. I regret the author did not stretch things so to speak and explore their hook up possibilities a little more thoroughly. Ah well room for a sequel...

Sexy Dragon

OMG Joel voicing this dragon was everything. I loved the hissing that he put into the words to make it more effective.

just wish it was longer

I enjoyed this story, and Joel Leslie is amazing as always, especially as Zephyr the dragon. I just wish it was longer and tied up some loose ends. maybe there will be a sequel to tie things up, but I kind of feel like it was just a short story that chose to focus more on the romance than actually tying things up with the bad guy.

This was a fairly short story set in a somewhat medieval setting that has us meeting an injured dragon named Zephyr. In this world, dragons have not been seen for hundreds of years so when the Queen of the realm hears about a dragon sighting, she send her brother Sir Gawain - who happens to be a knight with his own squadron - to see if the rumors are true.

It so happens that Zephyr was kidnapped and held by an evil mage who kept him caged through magical means and was using him to siphon off his magic. Zephyr is finally able to escape. Unfortunately, he frightens the humans in the surrounding villages and they end up trying to kill him and wounding him greatly. The story starts from there.

Sir Gawain finds this dragon and Zephyr immediately feel safe with him. Things get a little odd from there - only because of the fact that...well, he's a dragon. This story felt a bit superficial, which was fine because it made it an easy read/listen. It felt very "and they lived happily ever after" but it let several open questions - like what happened to the bad guy?

I listened to this completely on audio and Joel Leslie did the narration. I've listened to lots and lots of books with Mr. Leslie 's narration and as usual, he did a great job.

One thing that stood out was the character of Zephyr. He was adorable...utterly adorable. I would love to read anything that has him as a MC. I did look to see if there was a book 2 but so far, this is the only book out. It came out in January 2020, so we are almost at 3 years now. I'm not sure if that means there will or will not be a book 2 - I guess we just have to wait and see.....

Practically Perfect in Every Way!

I SUPER LOVED THIS!!!

I cannot wait for more about these two! This is exactly what you want in a story. It moves along quickly. There’s action, adventure, true love, an adorable dragon with a tragic past, royalty, loads of magic, and some smexy times!
I just couldn’t get enough of Zephyr. I love him!!!! He is cute, a funny, and curious and sweet and loving and fierce – all wrapped up in a delightful package. Even though he has a madman after him, he’s still very optimistic and engaging.

Gawain is nice. Maybe a little underdeveloped as a character, but still lovely and a wonderful foil for Zephyr.

I can’t recommend this enough!

Audio

Joel Leslie ROCKED this! He gave Zephyr an amazing voice and found a way to make him sound serpentine! Wonderful! I’d give it as many stars as you’ve got!

Great listen

I was hesitant at first with this being a love story between a human and a dragon but it quickly grew on me and I am very thankful I took the time to read this. If you’re questioning whether or not you should read this I recommend taking the chance, I think you’ll be as pleasantly surprised as I was. Can't wait for the next part to become available.

AMAZING!

Oh my god this is amazing. Good story line, and I don’t even normally like dragons. But I loved it. And absolutely phenomenal narration. Highly enjoyable and recommendable.

Four Hours of An Original Fairy Tale

Seriously, slightly edited (just taking the bed shenanigans out), this would make an awesome bedtime story.

Joel is the perfect narrator for this one.

I'm glad there's going to be more in the series (this is a HFN ending, although the romance isn't in question).

recommend.
