Publisher's summary

17 year old Ceres, a beautiful, poor girl from the Empire city of Delos, finds herself alone at sea, drifting towards the mythic Isle Beyond the Mist - and towards the mother she never met. She is ready to complete her training, to finally understand her power, and to become the warrior she was meant to be. But will her mother be there to greet her? Will she teach her all she needs to know? And will she reveal all of the secret of Ceres' identity?

In Delos, Thanos, thinking Ceres is dead, finds himself wedded to Stephania, and immersed deeper in a court he cannot escape from and in a family he hates. He also finds himself in the midst of the erupting Revolution, which culminates in a daring attack on the Stade. As the one person who can stop - or aid - it, he will have to choose whether to put his own life at risk.

With the kingdom collapsing, foes moving in on all sides, and assassination attempts abounding at court, Thanos cannot know who to trust. He is stuck in a game of pawns and kings, of traitors and queens, and it may be Ceres, after all, who is destined to change it all.

Yet after a series of tragic misunderstandings, the romance that seemed fated may just slip away from both of their fingertips.

Good read

Enjoyed this book but each book of this series seems very short. You have to keep buying books because they end so abruptly that you feel like you have only read half the story.

Cliff hanging addiction!

I am addicted to this series however I was so mad at the cliff hanger left at the end of this book. I am starting Book 4 in the series today.

Not as good

Not as good as the first one too much naïveté for those who were supposed to know better and what was the deal with no one telling thanos that stephania was the one that did all that

Phenomenal , emotional ,emersive & bingeworthy

Morgan rice never fails to amaze me with her stories that are so full of details and emotions that its like watching a movie in your mind. I can never put her books down, once I start a series, I always finish them satisfied and just in awe of her imagination and attention to detail and the way she melds each characters stories so seamlessly so that her readers get the whole story in its entirety and not just one sides(characters) perspective. Can't wait for the next series in these heroic tales she's manifested.

NOOOOOOO!!!

Morgan is an amazing story teller and this episode is very like The Empire Strikes Back in Star Wars. By the end it seems like the story is over and there's no winning for the Rebellion. But this is the Author's way of setting up the next purchase. You have to buy the next book to find out what happens. It will take an amazing turn around to get everyone out of the last betrayal. I do wish Morgan Rice would make the books longer. By the time the whole story has been told, the listener has spent a lot of money. A good but expensive tale.

Ok Morgan Rice,... I'm hooked!

I tested the waters with your 1st book not a fan of this genre in general but went out of my zone with much time to fill lately. You left me with a cliffhanger on the 1st book and I pursued the 2nd hoping to find out a conclusion only to get sucked in deeper. With the rebellion at its precipice now and the key figures all at a point of possible death or who knows.... I know I will be grabbing your next book to find out what happened. My only wish would have been to have you put it all in one long book like the Harry Potter books so I don't have to wait & keep going back to the store!

Readers- another action filled book. Betrayal, battles, mysteries, mysteries revealed, love, heartbreak, a kingdom in peril, families torn apart, greed, heroism,.... & much, much more. I will caution again there is no conclusion as this is a series so keep this in mind if you are considering purchasing this book. 👍 Enjoy. AR

unhappy with storyline "romance"

I really enjoyed the first novel of this series and the second was alright as well. Upon reading other reviews on Goodreads I have to agree that the world building/description is lacking and not fully there. What ruined it for me is that Thanos fell for Stephania. Although she is painted as someone as cunning and conniving I just find it so unrealistic that Thanos could fall in love with her and fricken marry her literally moments after finding out about Ceres death, claiming he doesn't want to go on and blah blah blah only to want to start kissing Stephania right after she delivered the news of Ceres death!!! Like wth?!? And then they get married and she becomes pregnant!?!? (I guess that could be more of a review for the second book) I just cant stomach that part of the plot. Stephania is still a cruel person who is selfish and views herself to be above the citizens just like all the other royals and nobles Thanos despises. Thanos could have easily discovered that on his own if he hadnt been so "touched" by Stephania's display of affection/care. It's just absolutely ridiculous. He despised her so much in the first novel only for it to do a 180. When Ceres meets her mother is it so anticlimactic and just glimpsed over. It mentions this about her mothers past and people, how she longs to tell Cere about it; that would've been great to include, why mention it briefly!! so frustrating! I dont think I can continue to read the series much longer being the main reason I am doing so is mostly for the romance of Thanos and Ceres and the addition of Stephania kinda ruins that. I'd be more okay with it, had there been more of a build up to their relationship rather than them suddenly falling in love in like a month, if that, all because Stephania was "so kind" to lend Thanos her shoulder to cry on.
