Kyle Amos's new life was about to begin. All he had to do was die first.
Kyle should have known better than to fall in love with a monster. Now he's paid the ultimate price to become what he is and the greatest betrayal imaginable has left him stranded and alone, everyone he loved reduced to a pile of ashes in his past.
Now he lives with his dark secret in the middle of a cursed town that keeps plenty of its own, determined to live a normal life, to make new friends, to find peace in a place where no one knows his true name or his true nature.
All hope for a normal life is shattered one fateful morning, moments before dawn by the ill-timed arrival of a handsome young man named Elias, shrouded in mystery, sexy as sin, with eyes as intense as the sun itself ...
A man with a mission of his own.
Kyle's long-buried past makes a savage return. Old foes threaten his newfound peace.
How can Kyle hope to live a normal life when his demons refuse to stay dead and gone where they belong?

I am really looking forward to the next book. I don’t know if this is meant to be part of a longer series or just a duo or trio, but it is well written and I am hooked to read more
I wasn’t sure what to expect with the author being the narrator, but he does an amazing job. His voices are very unique across the gender spectrum and he envies a depth of feeling and emotion into all lines spoken or otherwise.
surprisingly deep - thoroughly enjoyed

I don't feel Kyle had a real enough reason to want to become a vampire. Like it's a big change dude. Read the contract before you sign. It's a life changing decision with massive consequences, as Kyle finds out the hard way and later regrets. You'd think he'd learn something from being hasty and unprepared but you'd be wrong. He learned nothing at all.
Kyle seemingly just skipped through a whole lot of natural gay experiences like coming to accept yourself and being gay. Like I don't remember any part of the book where he specifically calls himself anything. Discovery and sexuality is a theme in Banner's books and it has definitely taken a backseat in this one which disappointed me.
Kyle being 100% naive throughout the entire book, Kyle being weak in personality, intelligence, and things that make him likeable... Everything that happens in the book, a reader can see coming a mile away because a lot of important information is spilled out in the very first chapter in the beginning which kills the mystery of what will happen next. Perhaps use shorter methods of foreshadowing that keep the mystery?
Kyle literally reacts to everything that everyone else does. He hardly drives any of the story forward on his own and does not ever seek to reconcile his flaws like not knowing anything about vampires in general or the people around him. He doesn't really grow as a person. Kyle is way too forgiving, unrelatable, and overall just dumb. I only really connected to Kyle when he went out to the desert for the first time by himself to die. After all he's been through and his undying condition, I would probably do the same thing if I were in his shoes, but that is the last time I connected with him. The other vampires are dumb because they literally let him live after he outed vampire kind to a whole town, and they let that town live just because Tristan said he would die in his place if things got out of control again... What???? I bet these vampires switch through leaders fast because they are dumb too...
Brock has potential as a character but was probably the second most annoying character in the book. He was so annoying to me at times that when he passed it made me sad, but I certainly wasn't devastated. I don't remember the name right now, but the Spruce Texas book by Banner that had Cody in it, that had a wonderful suspenseful moment in it that made me feel dread and panic for the characters.
The last surprise in the book was a good, tragic, and enraging one. Like Kyle my boy.... You have unfinished business with the evil vampires. Stop batting your eyelids as Elias for a minute, grow a pair, learn a little, kick some vampire butt and take back what's been stolen from you! Also, Triston is a dirt bag and I rolled my eyes at the end when he and Kyle made out for the last time. I would tell him to stand out in the sunlight for real, because he would finally be literally dead to me.
This book had potential, but overall it was a waste of time and money. I still like Daryl Banner's books, but not this one. Sorry, but too many things to dislike...
Boring characters, boring story. Some spoilers
