Publisher's summary

Where have all the disciples gone?

There is a missing force in Christianity today. It's a critical one, and its absence has led to weak believers, disintegrating families, ineffective churches, and a decaying culture. Without it we lack what we need to fully live as heaven's representatives on earth. That missing force is discipleship.

In Kingdom Disciples, Tony Evans outlines a simple, actionable definition of discipleship to help the church fulfill its calling. Listeners will learn:

  • What a disciple is
  • What a disciple cares about
  • How to be a disciple and make disciples
  • What discipleship looks like in community
  • What the impact of discipleship on the world can be

Kingdom disciples are in short supply, and the result is a legion of powerless Christians attending powerless churches, having a powerless presence in the world. The power, authority, abundance, victory, and impact God has promised will only come about when we understand and align ourselves with his definition of discipleship.

Kingdom Disciples calls believers and churches back to our primary, divinely ordained responsibility to be disciples and make disciples. Only when we take seriously this assignment will the world see heaven at work on earth.

Will you accept the assignment?

Kingdom Disciples is useful as base material for a course on discipleship.

One of Tony’s Best Books!

In my opinion, this is one of Dr. Tony Evans’ greatest books, as he tells how the Lord’s disciples are not only necessary in today’s time - anytime, really - but also how we’re to examine our lives and strive to work for God. He also gave great insight into Jesus’ teachings that I hadn’t heard or seen before (I read as I listen). As he’s written many books, I feared that some stories would be repeated. Granted, some were, but they were with a different, wonderful lesson to be learned. The further along you get in the book, the sense of our responsibility to live for Jesus grows, also painting a wonderful picture of how we don’t know when He’s returning, but the sooner we get to work, the better!

Mr. Calvin Robinson did a marvelous job narrating the book. I sped it up to 1.2x and could clearly understand everything he said. There were a few sentences that were skipped over, and there were a few times when sentences were repeated. But it didn’t take away from the book’s greatness in any way. Well done to both author and narrator! I’ll be sure to read/listen to this book many times in the future!

Enjoyed the book, but the editor should be fired

I’m thoroughly enjoying the book and even the delivery by the reader, but there are so many mistakes, rereads, and even a throat clear in the reading. Please fix it so others aren’t distracted.

So this is what it means to follow Jesus

This is my second time listening to this audiobook. I am also reading the hardback.

Tony Evans has a deep, abiding, and special relationship with Jesus. He’s absolutely done his homework. It has been a privilege and a delight to be encouraged, enlightened, coached, instructed, and comforted in this often misunderstood journey.

Along the way somewhere I have really missed the boat. I have to say it has been confusing to me to look around at American churches and ask myself: what is a disciple?

It is inspiring, motivating, and refreshing to hear the straight-up truth about what it means to 100% follow Jesus and influence others to do the same.

Any additional comments?

One of the things I like most about Tony Evans is his teaching style and voice. I was disappointed that he didn't read this himself.

One of his best books

This book was a very encouraging and thought provoking work. I would highly recommend and would give it to my local pastor as a building block on how to build up the Kingdom.

The answer to a question that has been with me

I wanted to know how to go from being a Christian, (which I don’t think I know what that is anymore), to true follower of Christ and man after God’s own heart. Father God and my Lord Savior Christ Jesus, they have done no are doing so very much for me in my life…

Solidly Biblical Call to Action

As usual, Dr Tony Evans inimitable style of story telling combined with solid allegiance to biblical exposition came through strongly in this book. I recommend it to every single Christian who profess belief in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It will stir your heart but most importantly challenge you to be a true disciple if you’re not already one, and initiate a path for you to make disciples of others as well. Thank you Pastor Tony for this invaluable work. May God continue to bless your ministry. Amen.

I’m inspired and a little overwhelmed

I’ve been a Christian for some 35 years. I thought I knew all I needed to know. I’d had good teaching early following my salvation. This book has opened my eyes that there is so much more. I haven’t been growing. But it’s not too late. Thank you.
