Publisher's Summary

Now in a special new edition perfect for young listeners, this is the amazing true story of four African American female mathematicians at NASA who helped achieve some of the greatest moments in our space program. Soon to be a major motion picture.

Before John Glenn orbited the Earth or Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, a group of dedicated female mathematicians known as "human computers" used pencils, slide rules, and adding machines to calculate the numbers that would launch rockets and astronauts into space. This audiobook brings to life the stories of Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson, and Christine Darden, four African American women who lived through the Civil Rights era, the Space Race, the Cold War, and the movement for gender equality and whose work forever changed the face of NASA and the country.

    "Historically necessary read"

Great story and very well narrated. This book gives pertinent insight into America's initial aeronautical endeavors into space and the intelligent African American women who served as a backbone to those endeavors.

    "Wow!!! Great story."

I really enjoyed the book. My only disappointment was that the story has only come out recently. But all in all it's a great book. Can't wait to see the movie. Thanks Audible.

"Might be better read than listened to"

I enjoyed the history provided by this book, and it did make me want to learn more about the women and their families, but i didn't care for this version. I have not seen the movie that was released last year, but I do plan to listen to the other version on audible and see if it's better.

    "loved it"

I truly enjoyed this book. I think it gives an exceptional history of NASA and the contributions made by African-American women.
