Story
Jim and his literal shoulder demon have survived, so far, by the skin of their teeth. After finding a long-abandoned starter village, Jim has begun the process of rebuilding his town. Unfortunately for our favorite adventurer, the threats he now faces are far more complicated than mere monsters. The poor Noob has to deal with angry townsfolk, trade negotiations, and a talking badger. With goblins and bandits also sniffing around, will Noobtown - I mean Windfall - survive?

Story
What happens when the haggling is done and the shops are closed? When the quest has been given, the steeds saddled, and the adventurers are off to their next encounter? They keep the world running, the food cooked, and the horses shoed, yet what adventurer has ever spared a thought or concern for the Non-Player Characters? In the town of Maplebark, four such NPCs settle in for a night of actively ignoring the adventurers drinking in the tavern when things go quickly and fatally awry.

Story
One day, six towers appear on Earth. Each one stands hundreds of stories tall, and are invulnerable to all attacks. At the base of each tower is a portal, welcoming in all who dare enter it. All sorts of magical monsters can be found inside the towers. Even treasure, magic, and superhuman strength can be acquired. The problem is that the towers aren't a friendly place. Even worse, the towers sometimes release waves of monsters to attack Earth. In the year 2083, there are only a hundred survivors. In one last attempt, they challenge the final floor without regard for their lives.

Publisher's Summary
They came from the north and the city fell. The land of Falanor has been invaded by an albino army, the Army of Iron. A small band of heroes led by Kell, a magnificent and brutal hero, breaks out to warn the king. Fighting their way south, betrayal follows battle, battle follows deviation, and they are attacked on all quarters by deadly warriors, monstrous Harvesters who drain blood from their victims to feed their masters. And worse is to come, for Kell is anything but a hero.
Andy Remic is a British writer with a love of ancient warfare, mountain climbing and sword fighting. Once a member of the Army of Iron, he has since retired from a savage world of blood-oil magick and gnashing vachines, and works as an underworld smuggler of rare dog-gems in the seedy districts of Falanor. In his spare time, he writes out his fantastical adventures.

Good gory fun
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Not on the epic scale of ASOIAF but a quite fun listen. Recommended if you enjoy grim dark type fantasy.
What did you like best about this story?
A fast plot, perhaps a little too many last minute lucky escapes, but hey its got steam-punk mechanical vampires and Conan type barbarians facing off, so what is not to like.
What does Karl Stark bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Good narrator, nicely paced with a pretty good range of accents/voices. Not really old enough for the voice of the old warhorse main character but I will let that pass.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Not really a big movie fan, so I would rather they made it into a GOT type TV series. Not sure why I should provide free copy, creative types get paid for that.
Any additional comments?
If you are a sensitive soul, this book is probably not for you as there is plenty of body parts flying around, bonking and swearing (all the good stuff).
