Story
Nitro is a story about much more than WCW and the Monday Night Wars. It is a story of an era, a time in which the media and cultural landscape precipitated - and later supported - pro wrestling's mainstream popularity. It is a story of how a company made in the image of an intuitively brilliant risk-taker betrayed its original promise. It is a story of how a handful of men, each struggling with their own limitations, facilitated a public obsession that changed television forever.

Story
For decades, wrestling was shrouded in secrecy. It had larger-than-life personalities, bone-crunching physicality and jaw-dropping theatrics, but backstage, it was an industry devoid of outsiders. Then in 1999, after working together on a special for MTV, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson turned to 26-year-old television writer Brian Gewirtz and asked, “You ever consider writing for WWE?” That question, and its answer, would have a profound effect on both of their lives for years to come. There's Just One Problem is a story about perseverance, tenacity, and steel chairs.

Ride alongside Jon Moxley as he retraces some of the highways traveled on his remarkable journey. Revel in the never-before-told stories about his early life in Cincinnati, Ohio; the gritty independent wrestling scene where he cut his teeth; the complicated corporate landscape of the WWE where he bucked against authority; and the rebellious upstart AEW, where he won the championship in 2020 and was finally free to achieve the vision of the wrestler he'd always wanted to be. With plenty of pitstops and revelatory insights, MOX is the riveting account of the life of a brawler.

Story
Throughout the history of the WWF, there have been times of prosperity and times of hardship, cycles that shape the ethos of the company by forcing changes to its infrastructure and on-screen direction. The one constant throughout three decades of change is Vincent Kennedy McMahon, the stalwart puppet-master who captains the ship. Unflinching, thick-skinned, and domineering, McMahon has ultimately outlasted all of his competition and come out on top of every wrestling war he has waged. In 1995, he very nearly lost.

During the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, he drew record crowds everywhere he went and left a trail of burned and bloody opponents in his wake. But what those legions of fans screaming for his head never knew was that The Sheik was really Eddie Farhat. The son of Arab immigrants, Farhat served his country proudly in World War II and was fulfilling the American dream. When he wasn't screaming unintelligibly and attacking his enemies, he was busy being the owner and operator of World Wide Sports.

One Of The Most Enjoyable Books I Have Ever Heard

By: Bruce Campbell
Publisher's Summary
"Sean's story, beginning as a renegade, outlaw company and evolving to redefining the shoot video genre, is extremely fascinating. Who knew that the man asking the questions was as fascinating as his subject matter?" - Justin Barrasso, Sports Illustrated
"Kayfabe brings to life a world that once had its own version of ‘omerta’ in a fascinating, well written book that will intrigue long time fans, new fans, and just those who are hoping to take a peek behind the curtain of this unlikely cultural phenomenon." - Eric Bischoff, WCW President
"I worked in a business full of liars, cheaters, workers, con artists and of course...politicians. I can name maybe 3 people over the years that I 100% trusted, or even believed for that matter. Sean Oliver is one of those men. In reading Kayfabe, you can believe that 100% of this masterpiece is accurate - yes, even the parts about me. The most stand-up guy perhaps ever associated with the business of Pro Wrestling. You want truth - you'll find it right here." - Vince Russo, Former WWE/WCW Head Writer
If you thought the world of pro wrestling was wild, imagine what you haven’t seen on TV and in the ring. Add to that the backdrop of building a renegade production company, negotiating with impossible wrestling talent, and hosting groundbreaking, shoot-style programming, and you have the story of Sean Oliver.
Sean has seen industry-wide accolades for the company he co-founded and for which he serves as front man. But there are also the threats, stories of abuse, and moments of downright hilarity that you haven’t known...until now.
Watch the unpredictable and unconventional story through Sean’s eyes.

A great book wonderfully read
'Kayfabe' is a wonderful look into the modern business of wrestling content, complete with all the triumphs and occasional missteps that can happen along the way. Sean Oliver affords the reader (or listener, in this case) all the candor that has made his Kayfabe Commentaries enterprise so successful. Listeners of the audiobook get the added delight of Oliver's spot-on impressions; his Bruno Sammartino and Terry Funk are especially perfect. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that it's not twice as long, but as they say in pro wrestling, the money's in the chase!

Kafabe: is through, funny and filled with stories!
Kafabe: is interesting, it provides a wide-ranging look behind the scenes of an industry behind an industry... However, what really comes through in this memoir is how much Mr. Oliver cares about the fan base of his business. Not to mention, how much he actually cares about the People behind the personalities that he and his team's interviews often center around. Sean does a very good job of allowing the listener to not only feel as though they're along for the journey; but indeed as a friend who is apart of the journey of the story's ups and downs throughout! I would recommend this title to anyone who enjoys the work of Kayfabe Commentaries and the pro wrestling industry in general.

Overall, an enjoyable listen for fans of KC
For fans of Kayfabe Commentaries, this is a well put together collection of stories and anecdotes about Sean Oliver's time conducting interviews, and running a small business. If you've seen other interviews with Oliver, then you may have heard some of the stories before, but you'll still spend an enjoyable couple of hours listening to him narrate them here.
That being said... Oliver can sometimes come across like he's giving a speech in an investor meeting, trying to convince you of how KC was the all-time best when it comes to The Shoot Interview Business, and you should prepare to roll your eyes every time he starts to have a moan about how underappreciated his "innovative content" was.
Missy Hyatt having a "Pyjama Party" with Lacey Von Erich? Innovative content, completely oblivious to why it wasn't a runaway success.
Raven pitching stupid gimmick ideas to some random indie geek who nobody has ever heard of? Innovative content, should have revolutionised the "shoot" industry.
And did you know that Jim Cornette despises Vince Russo, so it makes sense that he would never want to contribute to Russo's Roast? Well, Oliver thinks that makes Cornette just as bad as Donald Trump and he's going to spend 5 minutes whining about it.
While these moments don't ruin the book, they do drag things down more often than I would have liked. Also, I couldn't recommend this to an average wrestling fan; if you haven't watched any of the KC interviews before, then there isn't much for you here.

I didn't know what shoot interviews were but as a wrestling fan I was intrigued and immediately loved the content provided especially Timeline and YouShoot. Sean told his story in a funny and engaging way and his experiences in this weird old business provided the listener with great insight. There is nothing like the pro wrestling business and that's why l love it. Thank you to all at KC for their time, money and effort for creating content for fans like me.

Hit & Self-indulgent Miss
Starts solid with a story on Buff Bagwell, then quickly becomes a crude and self-indulgent mess that I'm sure appeals to fans of Oliver's series, but unfortunately was a massive disappointment to this newbie.

Great for behind the scenes stuff
Good stories about wrestlers, mostly from the 80's and 90's. Sean sure does love himself and seems to think he can almost do no wrong, I'm sure he'll tell you I'm wrong though. However, Sean is a great entertainer and his belief can come across as arrogant and smutty but it has helped him create a platform like no others. This book is about that and the great name's he's worked with. There's stories involving New Jack, Sandman, Scott Hall, Nash, Cornette, Bruno, Raven, Russo and many more within. Been a big fan of Sean's work and certainly consider myself a Kayfabe Commando. It was great to have this insight and a great read for those who love the industry and love go beyond the PG blanketed main shows.
