There has been much said about Dusty Rhodes, the 'American Dream', over the years by both his fans and peers. Love the story but........

I've always been a huge Dusty fan, so I'm not surprised that I liked the stories included in the book. I also liked the casual nature of the story and that it felt conversational.

The performance of this book was atrocious. I was continually taken out of the enjoyment of the story by the narrator outrageously mispronouncing the names of all the wrestlers. It was annoying and unnecessary.

Dusty Ego

Some great stories but his ego is even more epic than those. Wrestling fans will like it.

Too many mispronounced names by narrator!!

Narrator obviously had no knowledge of wrestling history. He mispronounced almost every name in the book. Really took me out of the stories.

Not really a book, more a collection of stories

If you're expecting a comprehensive book of Dusty's career this will leave you extremely disappointed. This is more a collection of stories from over the years. The book jumps all over the place, repeats itself a lot and isn't read very well. With that said, some of the stories are really interesting and some are very funny.

As I said the reader isn't very good -- he reads in what I guess he must thinks Dusty sounds like since it's sort of a Texas drawl -- of course if you're getting this book you know Rhodes sounds nothing like a typical Texian so it doesn't make much sense. Also the additional voices, which I know are done so you can seperate who is talking, are for the most part really bad. Finally he mispronounces numerous names and locations. With all that said I'll still give him 3-stars since if he did a straight read I think it would have been even worse since this book is written at a pretty low level.

So overall just know what you're getting, a collection of stories. If you can accept that you'll probably enjoy much of the book - but it's still quite disappointing that someone with so much knowledge of the industry would produce such a poor effort.

A Bio... If You Will!!!

It was an ok bio. Would have liked more in ring stories. The narrator is at times so bad it makes it "good". It made me lol at the various name pronunciations. For example, the guy had at least 3 or 4 different ways to say Jarrett. And let's not forget the classic Bis-ch-off

Outstanding Book, Wrong Narrator

Awesome story as told by Dusty Rhodes, but at times rough to listen to because of the narration. A bad country accent that was unnecessary. It was awesome to hear the inns and outs, ups and downs in the very humble beginnings are dusty. For a lifelong fan a wealth of new knowledge!

Interesting stories woven together

While not a literary masterpiece, this is an entertaining selection of Dusty Rhodes stories. Probably would have been more enjoyable had I read the book instead of listening. The narrator used the most corn pone, cracker accent that was really distracting. It sounded like he was portraying Dusty as a brain damaged moron. Also, mispronouncing every name was unforgivable. Isn't there a producer who should make sure this doesn't happen? You can easily find youtube videos or google how to pronounce most of these names.

great storiess, terrible narration

Stories were great yeah it's great but the narrator had a very fake Southern accent and mispronounced names throughout the book.

Enjoyed

The book was enjoyable, except for the narration. A lot of times he couldn’t even pronounce the wrestlers names right. I live in Tampa in the late 60,s and really a kick out of the armory stories as I used to go there on Tuesdays. Sorry I miss Dusty. I had a similar relationship with my dad, glad he got to fix his as I always liked Dustin. Your still bigger than life. R.I.P

great book

loved the book. was always a Dusty Rhodes fan. the reading of the book was almost perfect. main issue was the severe mispronounced names of some of the other wrestlers like Ted DiBiase. before writing this review I searched for a video of Dusty saying DiBiase to see if the narrator was just trying to make the reading more Dusty like. he was not. Dusty pronounced the name correctly. but all in all a great book with a really good reading
